Episode of the week: 3x12, "Mountie on the Bounty, Part 1"

All right, I think we've spent way more than enough time on "Dead Guy Running" (entirely my fault, and I apologize), so let's move on to the next episode - "Mountie on the Bounty, Part 1"! Definitely one of the highlights of Season 3, and also IMO of the series as a whole.

Sliver me timbers! )

1. Our Boys Fight!I didn't really buy the whole punching thing. The central conflict between Ray and Fraser needed to be foreshadowed a little more in earlier episodes, because suddenly in this episode we learn that their partnership is hanging by a thread and they're having trouble communicating. On first viewing I was confused, because it seemed like it came out of nowhere and the shootout scene on the rooftop didn't do a great job of establishing that Fraser Wasn't Listening and Ray Wasn't Getting Any Respect. I think the effect was due to the way the opening sequence was filmed; I couldn't hear/understand a lot of the dialog because of the shootout and it felt like any other action scene. The ensuing argument on the beach suffered from a similar problem, because we couldn't hear what either man had to say (part of the problem they were having with one another, I realize, but it still made it tough to follow for the viewer). MotB.1 - jumping dialogue nos4a2no9 December 12 2006, 21:30:02 UTC
If you are familiar at all with the movie 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid', you hear the dialogue almost word for word what Fraser and Kowalski said before they jumped off the roof into the water. Only it was BC and the SDK trying to decide whether to jump off a cliff with their horses into a river far below as the bad guys were gaining on them. DS copied MANY things: names, dialogues, etc. That's one of its endearing qualities - trying to figure out where they got all of it.

Hmm. From what we know of young Ben, he wasn't always a stickler for the rules. He runs away to hunt caribou in an act of rebellion. There is the incident with the boomerang, gasoline and the goldmine. He would play pond hockey with Mark Smithbauer until his grandmother dragged him home. He has an obvious thirst for knowledge, so whilst I don't know that he would go looking for naughty pictures, I can imagine him wanting to investigate the trunk without knowing what he'd find.

Mmmmmmm, sweaters!
