Mmm, nice! I particularly like the stanza with Fraser weathering all Ray's "hate-filled" days--his loving patience is portrayed there so well. And I like "gentleman" in the last bit--since you've only used "gentle" before it makes the reader hear that in the usual sense of "gentleman" but also in the split-up sense of "gentle man," both of which certainly apply.

Thanks :) I was kind of nervous being the first to post in this challenge.

I always see Fraser as a gentle soul, strong and often immovable but gentle with the hearts of those around him, the original meaning of what a gentleman should be :)

And that reminds me to change it to 'hate-filled' not 'hate filled' :) thanks for that!

This is very lovely. Sestinas are one of my favourite kinds of poems, and yours is gentle and sad and hope-full and very apt.

*blushes* Thanks

I wasn't sure whether to include the explanation of what a Sestina is, but I've had so many people who have given me a funny look and said "you're just repeating the same words, that's not that same as rhyming you know" when they don't recognise the form :P So you'll forgive me when I'm excited that you know the form :) Awesome!!!!

I'm glad you liked it

I blame Neil Gaiman. primroseburrows May 5 2009, 02:25:06 UTC
I don't think I could ever, ever write one (or explain how or even remember the formula), but I love them.

What a lovely start to this challenge - absolutely no need to be nervous about posting it!

And the explanation did make sense, though your hint at the start had me catching on to the idea of it pretty easily as well.

It all flows so beautifully, and I especially love the 4th stanza, with the blade haunting his days and dreams. And the last one, for the use of "gentleman" - spuffy put it much better than i could why that's so nice.

shucks :) that makes me very happy...

I actually considered putting it as 'gentle man' because it's a bit cliche to call Fraser a Gentleman but it's just so true!!!

I'm so happy with the quick (and lovely) responces from this comm I've just written a sequel, kinda ;) Tell me what you think!
