narrative vs. non-narrative plotting (the non-A-B-C-D plot Q)

The original question was:

“What's the best way to structure a story that doesn't use a conventional A-B-C plotline? I want (desperately) to write a story that manipulates time and incorporates a lot of ( Read more... )

*squees* I love you! And I haven't started reading yet! I'll be back with some comments later, hopefully.

Well, I hope it helps! It was difficult to write but, actually, I think it's helped me as a writer to work on this.

Thanks for posting this, I'm not a writer myself but I do love learning about the craft. I wouldn't know how to plot a story in my life depended on it, maybe I'll use your suggestions.

Well, good luck! It's never as easy as it looks when you break plots down into their parts, but I hope there's useful stuff in here for you.

You are a genius darling persona and I love you for writing this, especially because you used fic examples and the clear way you explained everything. THANK YOU!

This is an excellent post, and made me think very hard about the way I go about writing, and the different ways I could structure my writing. Usually I operate on an unconscious level - at least until the beta process.

And I confess that I still haven't untangled my own story completely!

Thanks for your fb. Yes, it made me think about how I structure my stories too -- or don't! I much more go for the intuitive... but now I can see what's wrong with some of the stuff I've written.

And don't feel bad... I have a behemoth fic I haven't untangled yet, either! But I'm going to plot out the A-B-C-ness of it some time this weekend, to help me figure out what's missing and bridge the gaps, hopefully!
