I liked the client's idea because * It let me not have to actually implement ideas 2) (which I had actually already done in the process of figuring out the problem) and 3) (which would have been time consuming) * His proposed solution was to hide the problem. Without the raw numbers to add up, you can't tell the numbers aren't right. So now, not only are the numbers meaningless, you can't even tell that they are. Which is elegant, in a way. * It's the sort of idea I like, but couldn't possibly propose.
