I feel I have abandoned my LJ for far too long. Sure, I keep up to date on everyone else, but that's just being selfish, right? So a little low-down on the D.S. for the masses
( Read more... )
Consider: If you simply do not fix your car, you save not only the money it will cost to fix it but also the money you pay for car insurance, for gas, for oil changes and general maintenance, for inevitable future repairs, etc. With the money you save you can buy train or bus tickets to Chicago. It's only $12 each way to ride the Illini train (leave Champaign at 7pm, return trip leaves Chicago at 4pm) to Chicago. Greyhound tickets are only $19. And the super comfy City of New Orleans extravagant train is $29 each way. Once in Chicago there's the el, the CTA busses, taxi cabs, and metra. All affordable with the money you save from not paying car insurance and repairs

All of this is true, indeed. But I LOVE to just take off and drive to nowhere in particular. The train IS a great *and preffered* way to get to the city, I just want the ability to go when I want and not restricted by certain travel times sometimes...6 a.m. is a bear in the morning for me to even to PRETEND to be awake! And I HAVE been good about not driving unless it's over a distance (i.e. Kim and Al's) or big grocery runs. I walk everyday to and from work. I actually enjoy being out in the 'elements' having missed out on them for so long. *grin*
I'll admit, I love driving. But I do what I can to curb that 'unneccesary' mileage due to laziness. It's a fine line to walk between, but I think I do better than most.
HA! Looks like Ruby does not approve of your return to cold weather. Judging by the symptoms you gave me, it does not sound like a battery. Sounds like a short in the harness. Probably not the starter, either. Good luck with that.
Heh. You have some hardcore granola friends, don't you? 'oppressive suffering that is car ownership'?!? The oppression and suffering are there to be inflicted on fools that do not recognize me in time, or who are too slow to dive out of the way of the dreaded toyota of doom! I think of my driving and vehicle ownership as a joy and a nice way to thin out a population that is in dire need of it, and as it is those who are too slow to dive or too stupid to plan ahead, it just makes good sense from a genetic sense to remove that third of the population ;)
But then, I suppose that somebody has to be around to make the government dole look useful, otherwise they'd have to lower taxes or something. Can't have that.
You know, what's funniest about this is I know that you're not really joking man...
To kind of second your views...um...I drive in Jersey. And often driving in Jersey kind of brings out the aforementioned driving style out of necessity. It's why I like driving here. As much as a long mellow drive can be relaxing, there's nothing like a short insane crazy drive to spark major excitement =^D
Anyways...sorry to hear about Ruby DS, but as much as it sounds like Demtharion is wishing death upon her, even he knows (and can vouch for the fact)that Toyotas don't die easily. I'm glad to hear that there is a rear window solution as well.
It's good to hear some more from you and am glad that things are going well otherwise. As soon as I get a little spare time, I'll send you an email update on things. I've covered the bulk of the excitement in my LJ though.
I agree with YOU...I have a feeling he isn't joking about the "nice way to thin out the population" idea either...
Kinda makes you glad we got out of that state, huh? *grin*
Glad everything is going great for you too. I'm happy you've finally linked up with (what sounds to me) like a promising start with a band...I was NOT happy to hear you can't practice/play as much as you need/want to...but keep at it. Take no prisoners and forge on! *ahem* I mean....ROCK ON! *grin*
But then again, you DO live in Tucson, and from what I've seen, driving ability is sometimes second or third in the list of priorities for a license...*wink*
I don't consider my friends "hardcore granola" either. Indeed there ARE ways of getting around without the use of a personal motor conveyance. And it DOES help with multiple ecological (and personal economical) problems we face in this life. It's not a bad way to go. I just like driving too much...and my friend will understand that. And please don't 'call names' (even in jest) especially when it's a friend of mine that you don't know very well. The sharp wit we may use on each other for innocent banter, doesn't always carry over understanding and feelings could be hurt.
