LJ Idol, Topic 27: "Once Upon a Dream"

May 11, 2012 10:25

Once upon a time, there was a little boy who believed in magic, and miracles, and dreams, and the great mysteries of life. He spent his time with his head in the clouds, dwelling amidst castles of ivory, flights of dragons and other wonders, each more fantastic than the last ( Read more... )

Wow, now I wish I had written something like this for the prompt. But I don't think I could have expressed it as well as you just did. I identify strongly with this. As cynical as I am at times, a part of me keeps dreaming. If we cannot hope, why live?

So on I hope though much of it may not come true.

I love your phrase: "I'm content to keep my feet on the ground, and my head in the clouds"

Wasn't "The Avengers" great? Hulk is my favorite:) Iron Man's abilities are fun but I guess I identify more with Hulk.

I also identified a lot with this line of yours: "I am constructed in such a way that I accept nothing at face value -- not a friendship, not the law of gravity, not a politician's promise, not the color blue -- without exploring it, seeking its truth, weighing the evidence, applying the principles of scientific observation to it."

All in all, an amazing entry, that will likely do very well at the polls. Great job!

Yeah, I was a huge fan of the way the Hulk was done in this movie (they didn't get it quite right in either of the two Hulk films) and Ruffalo did an outstanding job of portraying Banner. Iron Man has been my favorite Marvel character for more than twenty years, though, so there's a special place in my heart for him (plus, I LOVED the two Iron Man films -- but I'm biased).

I'm glad you liked this piece so well. I expanded a lot of the stuff that I've touched in already in several previous entries so I am hoping it doesn't come off as too repetitive. We'll see.

Thanks for dropping by!

cheers,
Phil

Maybe you can't dream of the skies without having your feet firmly rooted on the ground. This stands out to me, because it resonates with me. Well done.

Cool entry. I think the healthiest people do have multiple sides to their personality, the rational, the fantastical.....I enjoyed the way you dealt with this.

(Avengers was good..but I wanted to see The Vision)

I don't know so much about "healthiest", but certainly the most entertaining and interesting people are that way (he said modestly, buffing his nails). :) Glad you liked the piece!

I would have loved to see the Vision but I think he would require too much backstory. The other heroes presented had already had the benefits of other movies to set them up, except for Hawkeye who really doesn't need much backstory. He's a really great archer. The end.

LOVED THIS , reading it after I had posted mine was worried, but realised it was so very different, just some echoes here and there...You and I share something; that duplicity, to be practical and analyse, yet still dream and have heads in the clouds. Keep dreaming, as this was a beautiful entry, your dreams deserve following.

The dual nature is what keeps me going a lot of the time, I think. At least, it's vital to me living my life. :)

Thanks for coming by! I appreciate it.
