Violining

A week or two ago, I ordered new strings for my violin and I was really impressed with how my violin sounded.  Between just generally feeling a desire to do so, plus the new strings as an additional incentive more recently, I've taken to playing violin a bit more recently than I have been in a long time.  As in, most days actually.

I don't think you should take it so poorly. I don't think it's as if they expected that you wouldn't be able to pick up the violin and make a sound at all, they probably just expected you to sound a lot worse. I'm actually always surprised myself how little time it seems to take to get back into the swing of things (especially now that I'm practicing again after nearly two months almost completely away from the instrument - I thought it was going to take a lot longer than it did to sound decent). Things are always like that, though - you haven't done them in forever and you think you won't remember how, but then you do. (like riding a bike?) On that note, my teacher told me the other day that I should try swimming to build upper body strength, and I was kind of nervous to get in the pool here because I don't think I've swum a single stroke since, ummmm, probably sophomore year of high school. But it was fine, I still remembered! Swimming is a lot simpler than playing the violin. :-P ( ... )
