What does it say that I can analyze a piece of music according to the guidelines laid out by my theory teacher and not listen to one note of it?

It says you're a damn good musician/theorist.

It means that you're very good at doing the kind of analysis that your theory teacher is teaching you. Unfortunately, that kind of theory isn't grounded in performance considerations. :( Boo.

Not because you don't apply it, but that because of the nature of that kind of analysis. It doesn't actually apply to the real world and now I understand so well why so many otherwise talented musicians blow off theory and analysis.

that's the answer to the question I was asking: it's so pointless to be able to analyze music that you don't even need to listen to.
