Def Leppard, Cheap Trick

There's a preface to this, but I can't think of the words right now...

All blonde locks and time-roughened good looks, Def Leppard's Joe Elliott is hitting note after unforgettable falsetto note on the chorus of slow-burn classic Love Bites. "Love bites. Love bleeds. It's bringing ( Read more... )

That is a way cool (yet ridiculously daggy) story. Sounds like hilariously good times.

Seeing Iron Maiden earlier this year was more than a little in the same vein. Although, more subtle and less obviously so. I mean, the sets were ridiculously over the top and grandiose, but (subjectively anyway) there's more rigour about IM's classic songs. DL songs, for all their catchiness (or perhaps because of it) don't have that underlying beef and I daresay, breakthrough inventiveness.

Ultimately, IM, for all Bruce Dickenson's falsetto madness, has metal cred that DL simply lacks. But if you strip away all the scenester posing (and I hate hate hate scenterism), they both write kick-arse tunes and put on killer performances. So, really, who cares?

You go see them, you have fun. the end!
