Why not look for some volunteer work to build your portfolio? Contact service groups like the local animal shelter, free clinic (who ever, I'm just tossing stuff out here and see if they'd like new flyers. Or clubs! Don't the bands always use flyers?)

Then you'd have "experience" to show people who pay.

MAN all the characters in TGC looked so bland (even Demona with those faded colors), though "He who shall not be named" looks PARTICULARLY evil.
