Madeline - White Flag
This is a very alt-folky, bluegrassy, ethereal-pop-y album
from a 24 year old girl from Athens, Georgia, who's been
performing since she was 15. This is also my current
OMFG CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO IT record, so there you go.
Lisa Ekdahl - Give Me That Slow Knowing Smile
It seems every time I find some singer with an interesting voice,
she's from Sweden. FIGURES. Lisa Ekdahl sings mostly in Swedish,
but she's just released this record with all-English songs. She's got a child-like
quality to her voice that I enjoy -- sometimes sounding kinda like Astrud Gilberto.
Anyway. PRETTY.
Samantha Crain & The Midnight Shivers - Songs In The Night
This album got a bunch of nice reviews from Rolling Stone and Paste Magazine
and other important shit, and with reason. Country-rock-ish guitars and smart lyrics
and Samantha's voice is clear and sweet but with just enough oddness to it to
make it remarkable.
