DT as Zebediah Killgrave- Pervy Fanfic Can't be Far Away

Jan 26, 2015 19:46

I vaguely remembered the Purple Man from my happily misspent youth reading comics, especially Daredevil, so I looked about a bit to see what's been done with the character lately.

This is what I stumbled upon, thanks to the Nerdist.
Pervy content below the cut... )

dt, disturbing, zebediah killgrave

Am I the only person to hate this? 'Cause I feel like I am.

If it was anyone else, I know I would be creeped out massively. I don't usually go with non-con, but I just can't help it with DT.

I've never rooted for anything of his to fail.... except for this. It's making me think about turning in my fangirl card.

At first, I kind of defended it - he's played a rapist before, a killer before, a psychopath before... but for some reason, this has been a gut punch of some kind to me. I don't think I can be a fan of his while he's playing a character like this.

Thanks for sharing- I can see your point.

I think fantasy bad guys don't bother me as much as real life evil does. I did watch the Politician's Husband- that was difficult, because it was believable. I mean I can see the ego of a certain kind of male not being able to handle having a wife more successful than he is and going all alpha male. I find that sort of manipulation much more disturbing than having someone with superpowers dominate you, because unfortunately, that kind of manipulation exists.

You already know my opinion here, but I'll say it anyway. I'm very much looking forward to DT playing evil, disturbing, horrible. He has the most incredible emotional range, and I don't think we've seen enough of that side. I'm very excited for this series.

He certainly has done some really creepy roles, Brendan Block for one. He was seriously creepy there, and I could only watch that once. The thing is, an actor has to have real range to do the kinds of roles DT has done: Shakespeare (both comedy and serious roles), Doctor Who, Secret Smile... and he can make you love his character or hate his character. Does both equally well, and that is the mark of an excellent actor. (Sort of reminded me of Harrison Ford, he played all those hero types, then did Mosquito Coast... you really really hated the character, but that's what it was supposed to be. Not quite the same range as DT, I noticed, but still, the concept is valid ( ... )

I think, like with Brendan Block, it's more how the actress plays the response that determines how eeked out I will be than actually how much of a perve he is. And I'm willing to bet that given how incredibly politically correct things have become since the Jessica comics were originally written we will see her responding VERY differently than the ultra-disturbed and frightened looks I've seen in the comic strips when he tells her to take off her clothes. Gone will be the deer in headlights helpless victim vibe. If they do even show anything remotely that un-pc then I bet instead she's all empowered and giving him as good as she gets. I'm not judging one way or the other, it's just that whole damsel thing simply doesn't get filmed these days, it's considered too distasteful. (Or if it does it's in anime porn, or other genres I never watch!)

I thought that look was a hypnotized sort of look, not necessarily that she, under normal circumstances, would be a helpless damsel, but that his pheromones and mind control powers were too much for most people, not just females. It's just what he did with that to the females was different and highly offensive. You're right, though, they probably will not go that far, even if DT's acting range would be able.

I suppose, if the female were a willing and knowing participant in what Brendan was doing to them, it might have been a little less squicky. But I still think it was creepy, one woman after another. In the end, he got his, for the one thing he actually was innocent of. The whole thing was disturbing, you're right about that, how none of these women knew what was going on until it was too late, except the first one.
