I'm just about to beta read something for someone whose opinion of Peter isn't anywhere near as flattering as yours. So I'm getting a very different perspective on him and now NEED to watch Blackpool to develop my own independent opinion. (This friend did say it's worth watching.) Which made it a little weird reading this new part, as much as I was delighted to see an update.
Aw... Sounds like Ian and Maddie are going to inspire something very soon. Maddie was so hinting that Donna and Peter need to follow her and Ian's example. ;D
Holy... I wasn't expecting you to go there, but I so should've. Of course Donna would be at risk of seeing something and remembering, and her family wouldn't know it was coming. Glad Sylvia didn't see it. Although... for all we know, she did. On the telly. So... angst galore coming up? I'll brace myself.
YOU'VE NOT SEEN BLACKPOOL!?! Check your email NOW.
Yeah, Peter is a bit of a manipulative bastard in Blackpool, and more than a bit cheeky, but he's an investigator and he'd be damned good at it, if his head was in the game. Ironically, in Blackpool, it's his junior officer who actually gets it right, but Peter is a man in love and is blinded by that. Oh, but he's charming and snarky and passionate and I've fallen completely in love with him. I guess I've tried to redeem him and justify some of the more questionable traits. So I'm sorry to put you in conflict, but Blackpool is my favorite DT role.
Thanks so much for reading and even more for commenting. It's been too long since I've written but life has a way of intruding on my fun.
Oh! If Peter gets there in time, he's going to see a reflection. This could get very interesting; everyone thinks it was Peter carrying that torch, but it wasn't. It's a bit of confusing, too, if Peter confronts him because it's the wrong time; the Doctor hasn't done what he did to Donna yet, he hasn't even met her.
Meanwhile, Donna was rambling on about Midnight and the Library, and it seems with no ill effects. Now she also recognized that the new torchbearer wasn't Peter, but "Dr. Smith."
Back to the beginning... Ian planned that all very carefully, didn't he? Nice job of testing the waters and getting an answer that reassured him that he would be received well when he did present the ring. Nerys knew she wasn't wanted at that moment, good she backed off when she caught sight of Peter... at least she had some sense.
Ooh, the kilt! Hooray, can't wait!
And I bet Peter's former upstairs and downstairs neighbors are grateful for the quiet now that he's out. Maybe they'll get some sleep!
Peter's on the run, and in more ways than one, I'm afraid. And just a hint: the Olympic Cauldron lighting was a fixed point in time- nothing changes from Ten's POV. But oh- Eleven is a sneaky bastard...
And Donna's past is indeed starting to leak into the present and will have unfortunate repercussions in her future, but she knows what she wants.
Nerys- oh, she's a piece of work, and she knows not only how to pick her battles, but when to go on the attack to inflict the most damage. We haven't seen the end of her, I fear. It's all coming to a head and I can see the end far off in the distance. This was one of the scenes I saw in my head when I began almost three years ago. What follows on is pretty much inevitable.
Thanks for the read and the comments! As this gets longer and longer, I know I'm writing for myself, but I'm happy someone else is along for the ride.
Oh! I never noticed the "serenityslady" tag! I'm honored and humbled.
As I said in email, I had forgotten that this was leading up to the torch incident, and it did catch me off guard. I literally tensed up when it was announced and Donna recognized him. I am waiting for the inevitable collapse.
I noticed the addition of Peter recognizing "Dr Smith" first and his decision to go after him. I do so hope that confrontation doesn't take place, or, if it does, his companion is nowhere in the vicinity. Awkward would not begin to describe it.
As Peter said, Ian has certainly raised the bar. Peter seems to have a few insecurity issues that need to be addressed, as witnessed by his complete overreaction to Donna's shopping spree. He let Sylvia's irrational comments burrow into his psyche and make a nice little home there. What he should have done was tell the interfering biddy to mind her own business and have a little more faith in her only child!
And I loved Peter turning Nerys away with the death stare! Priceless

I feared this comment was coming- and most justified it is- so I actually started revising and am almost ready to post. Minor revisions still need to occur, but I'll post before the weekend ends. Thanks for your continued support and happy holidays!
I'm on the edge of my seat here but before I rush on to the next bit (oh the joy of playing catch up and not having to wait :D: D) I wanted to say how much I love this:
"...Donna chattered, practically skipping down the sidewalk in her enthusiasm.
"Is this becomin’ a habit with the two of ye? Should I be concerned?” he asked, clearly smitten with her exuberance and smiling to himself, as they made their way hand in hand down the Chiswick high road, her lively recounting of her day’s activities washing over him."
It's just adorable how cute they are together just in an every day way, how she can be herself and he loves it instead of cringing. These little glimpses show how happy they'll be together long term I think, even more than the (really awesome) physical intimacy or how well they work as a team with mysteries like Dr Smith!
