[9] -- we are always in the expectation of living

I have to say I was surprised. Thanks for the little library Wayne, and the- switchblade Dick. [amused] The book of course too, Dickens is very festive. Cissie, Mel, thanks too. And Quatre and Johan. It was certainly a more... relaxing Christmas than Gotham usually offered, [taking a sarcastic tone] even with the 'special gift' from our ( Read more... )

Busy this evening then? I don't think my apartment will cut it this time. Do you know a secure place?

...Maybe a few. Do you have an aversion to rooftops?

[wryly]If I'm right then you should know the answer to that. [with a soft sigh] No problem, have a certain one in mind?

I take it the Joker's responsible for a bit of the madness going on lately?

He's the only one we're sure took part in it. I know there are some other suspects but none I've heard with hard evidence behind.

Could you just refresh my memory, please? I'm still getting used to being part of this group, so I just need some pointers. I heard about a burial going on; was the Joker responsible for that?

The basics are this- six people went missing. Three cards were found in connection to three of the missing, cards the Joker left. He basically allowed himself to be caught and gladly claims his roll. From what we can tell a spell was used to hide the kidnapped - who had been buried alive. [the last words are said in disgust before returning to a careful neutral] Joker isn't able to cast spells, and even that number would have been hard. Someone else was involved. One of those buried says a man named Atlas was the one who grabbed her, though his friends seem to think he was under some influence.

[with a sigh] He's still on the loose, and whoever did that spell is as well.

That's a tough question. I'd say we have the Alliance decide, but we're not exactly the law of the land here. We made that a point during the first meeting. Although... would a trial of some sort be possible? I say 'some sort' because I don't really know how one in this case should go about, only that the case should at least be presented to the compound at large and we can try to figure out what the majority wants.

That's what I was thinking, something like a mass public decision. Letting anyone go and have their way sets a precedent that could be very dangerous in the future. There's an idea that could work - I'll let you know when more details of it are worked out.

[ooc: I think Batman is supposed to spring the trial idea to Harvey in a thread we're doing but he hasn't yet - being vague in this comment for safety's sake~ haha, just so you know]

Please do. As the legal expert, this is your turf.

((ooc: Oh, don't worry, this isn't supposed to be the idea since I figured that Batman would be the one springing it anyway, haha. Just something Fayt mentions in passing, having had a little experience with things of this sort. :D))

Hopefully law can be applied. How are doing Fayt? Things have been so hectic I can't imagine you're not exhausted.

[ooc: Oh! sorry if I seemed to be scolding, I just meant to explain my vague and weak answer lol <3 ]

[Flatly] You want to stage a trial for a man who is obviously guilty and would happily admit to the crime.

[with a light, dry tone] His guilt isn't what we're debating here, it's how he should be punished for that guilt.

I see. That's something entirely different. I just might attend.

...Where is the Joker's communicator? I meant to ask you earlier.

It's been locked away with the other items on his person. Any reason why?

[ooc; I'm assuming this, I'm not entirely sure that's what the others intended for his PDA]

::tight voice:: Can I be on the jury, Mr. Dent?

[with a sigh] If anyone deserves to judge him it's you and the victims Tim. If we're going by law standards you'd be considered too biased to judge him properly.

I'm aware that I wouldn't be fit for a legal jury. I can imagine the defense attorney's questions now:

Defense: Mr. Drake, have you or anyone you love ever been hurt by the Joker?
Me: Yes, and yes.
Defense: Thank you very much. Your Honor, I ask that this juror be dismissed with cause.
Judge: Granted.

And that would be the end of it.

That would be the basic script of it. [a pause] This may not end up being so legal as it is a mass meeting. Whatever the case I'll make sure you're a part of it Tim. You deserve that.
