While technically Koren War era veterans did not get the actual "GI BILL", they were eligible for benefits under the veteran's re-adjustment act. Yes it didn't pay the schools directly, but gave the veteran an monthly allowance to pay for the school. This is the version of the "GI BILL" that I went to college under. While it might not have payed for entire medical degree, anyone who was willing to work while they were in school, or had a spouse willing to work could have pulled it off.

Might be the reason you father didn't go to medical school is because he didn't want to. Not everyone wants to be a doctor ya know? Even people with doctors in the family. Might be that was your mother's dream, not his.

Anyway, your father was a wonderful man, worked hard to support his family, loved his daughters, and his grand daughters, was kind to children, animals and adults, was funny, and fun to be with, and just generally a nice man.

Your mother, well lets just say that she was not my kind of person, and leave it at that.
