In a related footnote, I did a comparison of the states that voted for Kerry vs Bush in the last election, with respect to the states' educational rankings.

I think the top 16 states in the Nation all voted for Kerry, and the bottom 20 or so all voted for Bush. It was...an impressive spread of education vs party...
