“Hello, how may I help you?”
The loneliness, without Jinki, did not take long before it sank into Kibum’s heart. With him being alone in their apartment made him miss his lover even more. And so, Kibum decided to find himself a job to make time drift faster. He found a part-time job at the floral shop down the street. Within the nine months of working, he was glad the flowers had kept him busy enough to avoid sitting there counting the days left for Jinki to return.
Oh, and working at the floral shop also brought along a surprise for Kibum- a nearly head aching surprise.
“Kibummie~” A voice sang through the sun-lit shop.
It was a voice Kibum had become accustomed to for the past nine months. The boy sighed and he finished wrapping up the dozen of red roses in hand. He did not bother to look up as he greeted the other, “Morning Jonghyun hyung.”
Jonghyun had fluffy hazel hair, a pair of irresistible puppy eyes, a killer smile and a muscular body. He was what women and even men would label as a “good catch”. But, Kibum had someone better already- he had Jinki.
“So hyung, what are you doing here today,” Kibum paused, “again?”
Jonghyun cocked his head to the side cutely. He took a step closer, smiling. “Taking you on a date baby.” His sculptured body leaned casually on the wooden counter as he stared at Kibum almost dreamily.
The younger boy raised a brow. “How many times do you want me to explain it to you hyung? I hate it when you call me baby and I have a boy-”
“And now I’m taking you out for lunch.” He softly interrupted as his slender fingers played with the fallen petals. He took a quick glance at the neatly wrapped bouquet of roses on the counter and he chewed on his bottom lip. “Umm,” He hesitated, “guess you won’t be accepting that bouquet of roses right?”
Kibum’s eyes widen as he stared at the other. “You were the one that ordered this?” He sighed, picking up the flowers. With his eyes closed, he rubbed his temples tiredly. “How many times do you want me to explain to you to not buy me flowers?”
“I love you?” Jonghyun smiled sheepishly as he scratched the back of his head.
The boy kept quiet as he cleaned up the small mess he created on the table.
“Hey Kibum, would you join me for lunch?” He lightly tapped the bright coloured watch on his wrist. “It’s your lunch break now right?”
Kibum took a note of the sudden change in the other’s tone. It was much softer and gentler compared to his regular teases. “I brought my lunch with me today.” He said as he headed to the backroom. He returned with a small bento box neatly nestled in his thin creamy arms. He bit his lip, feeling a wave of guilt. “Sorry hyung.”
The elder grinned, not giving up. “That’s alright, I’ll go buy myself something small from the convenience store and I’ll join you!” He headed out the glass door.
“But hyung!” Kibum called out to the disappearing frame. He was too late as he saw the other lightly jog across the street.
Kibum would be lying if he said he did not like Jonghyun and in fact he would even dare say he loved Jonghyun. To him, he was like a best friend and an older brother he never had. Meeting the boy was one of the best things that could ever happen to him. Jonghyun was someone that cared for him. He was the type of boy that would come before the flower shop would close and help Kibum clean up. After that he would walk him home, claiming that he was too beautiful to walk alone at this time of day. Jonghyun was someone that listened to him. He never failed to pick up Kibum’s calls at any time, even at 3 in the morning. Despite his tiredness, he listened to him cry over Jinki. Jonghyun was someone that he could depend on.
Deep inside, Kibum was awfully thankful to have someone so genuine by his side but he knew he was selfish. It was obvious that Jonghyun was trying, very hard he might add, to court him. He knew the other loved him in a way that he could never return back. Kibum knew he should have laid down the lines between their relationship but he was afraid. He was frightened by the fact that Jonghyun would leave him alone as well. It was hard enough without his lover by his side and he could not bear losing another companion. Kibum hated himself for being so self-centred; he hated himself for hurting Jonghyun over and over again.
He sighed, running his cold fingers through his hair. His feline like eyes landed on the calendar hanging on the wall behind him. The calendar was filled with red markings, mainly ‘X’s as each day went by. A big red circle caught his eye; it marked the day that Jinki was returning. Kibum unconsciously smiled and with his index finger, he counted the days left until the special day.
One, two, three,
Four, five six,
Seven.
“One more week left.” He murmured to himself. He was still smiling as he twirled around on his chair. “One more week left!” He repeated again but this time livelier, just like his spirit.
“What’s going on one week from now?” Jonghyun asked as he came through the glass doors. With a plastic bag in hand, he took the seat in front of him. Rustling through the bag, he took out two banana milks. He handed one to the other, “Your favourite.”
Kibum accepted it, “Thanks hyung.”
“So what’s the big day?”
Meeting the other’s anticipating gaze, he squealed. “Jinki is coming back in a week!” He took a small sip of the cold milk and he found himself chuckling softly by himself. “I’m just so happy that he’s finally coming back.... but I’m somehow so nervous to see him.”
Jonghyun kept quiet. He took a bite into the sandwich he had just bought.
“What if,” the boy paused, “just what if our relationship changed? Or what if after meeting new people in Japan, he doesn’t think I look beautiful anymore?”
“You’re beautiful Kibum and nothing is going to change that.”
Kibum opened his mouth to say something back but he did not know what to say. After a moment of silence, he faintly smiled, “Thanks Jonghyun, for everything.” Taking a glance at the other’s unwavering gaze, he continued, “And I hope that you can find someone better than me, someone that can love you just as much as you do. You deserve that hyung.”
“I know and someday I will Kibum.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Five days left huh?”
“Five days left and I am panicking right now Taemin!” Kibum and his cousin, Taemin, were in the mall to look for an outfit to wear to the airport. “I mean, we haven’t seen each other for nearly a year! What should I wear? Something plain and simple?”
Taemin picked up a deep-v tee from the rack. “How about wearing something sexy to tease him?” The boy grinned innocently, pushing the shirt in the other’s hand.
“Are you sure about this?” Kibum bit his lip, unsure. He took another glance at the shirt and fumbled with the v-line. “It’s a little low in the chest area Minnie.”
Taemin scoffed as he crossed his arms over his chest. “That’ll teach him the lesson to never leave something so gorgeous alone ever again.”
Kibum chuckled, nodding his head. “I guess you’re right! I need to show how stupid he is for leaving me! Now, what about pants…” His voice trailed off as he stared at the ‘thing’ Taemin was showing to him. “No, you’re kidding right?”
Taemin shook his head. He smiled, pushing it in the other’s hand.
“I’m not wearing some tight glossy leggings for him!”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Are you excited?” Taemin asked over the phone.
“Of course! Only three days left…” Kibum murmured blissfully as he twirled the phone line around his fingers.
The younger boy laughed along. “What are you doing after work?”
“I’m thinking of going to a hair salon. My hair is getting a little long.”
“I should come along. I don’t want you to get a ridiculously haircut.”
“Sounds good,” The door opened, revealing a slightly damped Jonghyun. He skilfully arranged the fresh hydrangeas in the glass vase. “See you later Taemin.”
“Morning Kibummie~” He wiped away the tiny raindrops on his jacket and his hair. Shaking his umbrella near the door, he said, “It’s pouring outside. Are you going anywhere after work?”
Kibum pouted. He wasn’t very pleased with the gloomy weather. “A hair salon.”
“Need a ride?”
And so, Kibum found himself in Jonghyun’s car with Taemin.
“Jonghyun, this is my cousin Taemin and Taemin, this is Jonghyun.” Kibum introduced the two. He stole a quick glance at his younger cousin in the back seat and from the small smile, he could tell Taemin found Jonghyun attractive.
“Taemin, have we met before?”
Kibum almost chocked on the water he was drinking. “Don’t use that stupid pick-up line on my cousin! Have you no shame?” He snapped.
Jonghyun chuckled, gently patting the other’s back. “I know I’ve used a whole dictionary of pick-up lines on you Bum but your cousin just looks very familiar to me.”
The youngest of the three played with his fingers on his lap. “I can’t believe you remembered seeing me before hyung. I’ve seen you around in the campus’s music club.”
“See Bummie?” He playfully stuck out his tongue at the glaring boy. “Do you sing as well?”
“No, I dance.”
“Guess we have something in common!” Jonghyun smiled. He took a small glance at the rear-view mirror and couldn’t help but to fall for the smile that was playing on Taemin’s lips.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Oh my Taemin! Jinki is coming back tomorrow!” Kibum almost squealed and jump on the other as he saw his cousin walk in through the automated doors.
Taemin shook his head, chuckling at the other. “I can see that you’re very excited hyung and I’m happy for you!”
The two were at a supermarket to buy the ingredients for tomorrow’s big dinner. The elder linked their arms together, tugging the skinny boy down the aisle. Fishing out a notebook from his bag, Kibum read out the food that he needed to buy. “Chicken, chicken and chicken.”
“Oh yeah, I almost forget your boyfriend is a chicken fanatic.”
“I’m making his favourites, fried chicken, seasoned chicken and chicken stew, for tomorrow!” He dropped a bag of carrots and onions in the cart. “Everything just has to be perfect.”
“Don’t worry too much hyung. If even someone goes wrong tomorrow, he’ll just kiss you senseless anyways.” Kibum flicked him on the forehead, earning a yelp. “You know it’s true.”
The two continued walking down the aisle. “Should I buy-” Kibum’s question was cut by a sudden ringtone. He watched the other stared at the screen. “Well, aren’t you going to pick it up?
Taemin pressed the speakers to his ears. “Hello?” The boy chuckled but it sounded more like a giggle to the other. He mouthed to the other, ‘be right back’.
“Who is it?” He asked in a hushed tone.
“Jonghyun hyung.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today was the big day.
Jinki was returning today, forever and ever.
Taemin sat on the leather sofa while waiting for Kibum to come out from his room. “Are you done changing yet?” He changed the channel, watching the colour of the screen flicker.
The bedroom door slowly creaked open and Kibum stepped out. He looked uncomfortable as he picked at the tight leggings and constantly fixed his deep-v tee. “This is ridiculous. I still cannot believe that I agreed to this outfit.” He stared at his reflection on the mirror and instinctively fixed his hair.
“Hyung, you look so sexy!”
Kibum pursued his lips. He was unsure. “Really?”
“Trust me hyung! This outfit would give him a nosebleed! The red tee’s v neckline is perfect since its low enough to accentuate your chest area and the pair of glossy leggings just makes me speechless to its beauty.” Taemin smiled and took in the gorgeousness of the outfit he picked out. He nodded, pounding his fist to his chest. “I’m so proud of myself.”
“I trust you Min,” He smoothed out his shirt. “Want to join us for dinner?”
“No thank you. That is like a ticket to watch two bunnies going at each other.” Kibum flicked his forehead. The boy yelped in pain, rubbing on to the sensitive skin. “Plus, I have somewhere to go…”
“Where?”
“I’m just going out for dinner with,” Taemin bit his lip, avoiding the pair of eyes on him. “With Jonghyun hyung.” He mumbled in hopes the other didn’t hear it.
“Jonghyun hyung?” Kibum gasped at his name. He noticed the other fidgeting with the hem of his shirt in his seat and at that moment, he realized. Taemin was in love with Jonghyun. He grinned and sang, “Someone has a crush~”
Taemin glared at his hyung with his arms crossed against his chest. “Shut up!” He aimed a nearby pillow at the dancing figure. He pouted. “I hope you have bad sex tonight.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Squeezing in the crowd, Kibum managed to grab a front row spot in the arrival area of the airport. He checked the status of Jinki’s plane and it read arrived. He took out the placard he made the night before and he held it up against the cool metal railings. It read, ‘Milky skin Lee Jinki’ with a big heart at the end. It would be hard for Jinki to miss this bright coloured placard or his sexy outfit.
The automated glass doors opened and a crowd of people strolled out. Kibum’s grip on his placard tightened and he held it up higher. His eyes searched the crowd for his boyfriend. “Jinki, Jinki, Jinki…” He murmured his name softly. Spotting a certain honey brown hair boy, Kibum rushed to the end of the railing.
There, coming towards him was his Jinki. He looked a little different than one year ago. His hair was in a new shade of honey brown. His eye bags were more visible and he took a mental note to give him a cucumber face mask. Jinki looked skinner and Kibum’s heart ached at that thought. The boy did complain awfully a lot about missing his cooking. Despite the changes, his smile didn’t change. It was still the same smile that made his knees feel weak, the smile that he loved the most.
“Kibummie!”
Oh how he missed Jinki calling him that.
“Jinki!”
“Baby, I missed you so much!” Jinki wrapped his arms tightly around the smaller frame, pulling their bodies close. He rested his cheek on top of the other’s head and caressed his side. “I love you so much Kibum.”
His voice was like music in his ears. Kibum eagerly kissed the other on his lips and smiled. “You have no clue how much I missed you too.” He stared into the other’s eyes and he felt like time had stopped. Cupping his soft cheeks, he pressed another long kiss on his lips, loving the way it felt against his. “Jinki, jinki, jinki I love you! You make me go crazy…” He laced his fingers through the others and leaned his body against his.
“You have no clue how crazy your outfit is making me at the moment. It makes me want to do many things to you that aren’t appropriate here.” He whispered playfully in Kibum’s ears, trailing his fingers on the creamy arm.
“You like?” He grinned.
“I love it.” Jinki planted a chaste kiss on his temple. “But when have you started to dress so sexy like this? Seriously, have you seen those creepy stares people are giving you?” He looked around them, giving glares to those who were checking his boyfriend out. He snaked his arm around Kibum’s waist protectively. “Promise me to only wear these clothes at home, only for me to see!”
“I love you Jinki.”
“I love you more Kibum. Did you make chicken for me?”
