I think we value stuff too much...dawreiJuly 9 2008, 14:09:31 UTC
You’d take religion to break the monotony and find your life’s purpose, yet you consider the existence of a God unlikely. That won’t work, you know. What happens then is that you find just another thing to build your life upon; a set of rules and a bunch of ideas, but it won’t have merit

Excuse me, but what? That was sarcasm. I'm completely aware that I can't have religion and atheism at the same time. Seeking to understand something is not seeking to have it, only to have the understanding

I overreacted, I guess. I felt as if you were offering me religious advice or something - but I do believe we have firmly established that we don't agree religiously, so I could not see what it was good for, and it also seemed...I don't know. A lot of religious people seem to think that they have the answer, just listen to what I say, and you will understand too and be enlightened - or whatever their chosen words are. It is patronizing and exceptionally infuriating. I'm sure you don't mean to be so, and probably you weren't even being so. But I am sensitive to that tone

Liege lady - yeah, you remember that, you insolent...:D
Nah, disagreeing is fine (though it sometimes gets me extremely anxious...you should have seen my blood pressure rising when I read your hell-hath-no-fury reply...Ahem XD)
Just to get this clear though: I hate fanaticism, because I believe it is very dangerous. My liveless things weren't exactly an encouragement to "turn away from earthly thiiings" (that would be Buddhism XD), rather something I had found out about myself. Me, I tried to get my worth from being a succesful, normal student, while I obviously cannot BE a normal student because whatever PDD-NOSish thing it is I have, it will not allow me to be so. So, what I was saying was: I tried to force myself into something I could not be

I know I get off very strong sometimes. I get adrenaline rushes from arguing with people, I think XD And particularly when I feel as if I'm being patronized (insert image of Duchess with steam out of ears here). And religion one cannot agree on, because so much of it cannot be explained. I mean, I will never understand the concept of sin, for instance, because to me it is...like, a self-closing trap. Believe in this and you must continue to believe because now you know how sinful it is not to. And thus free will becomes...a trap. If you don't believe in me YOU ARE WRONG AND HELL AWAITS. Well, something like that. Whereas if you believe in it, you are glad that someone is there to save you
