YAY!!!

I'm off to London on holiday for three days next week! Gonna be awesome.

Okay, I know I already live and work in London, but that's different. This is time off, specifically as a tourist!

Let it be known that this is my favourite touristy thing in London. Can we go? Can we, huh ( Read more... )

I wanna go! I wanna go!! Oh, me too. :D

Heheh...This has officially been added to my to-do list.

On a somewhat related note...I was just sent an email notice about alleged $99 roundtrip fare to London. At that price, I nearly just blindly booked it. They lie! They charge out the ass for taxes & fees. To the tune of $400 or so. I say nay.

heheh... That's how they get ya!

I've been to The Monument loads of times. Love it. Went there a few times as a kid and it always bring back lovely splendid wonderful [insert superlative] memories. And it's like £3 to get in, so is silly cheap. Great views. But not great if you're scared of heights.

Well even the legit offers had loopholes. Saw another one that was very reasonably priced (airfare plus 3 nights hotel for $549 OR airfare plus a week's car rental for $489), and their fees weren't ridiculous, but you had to have multiple people flying over there. *sigh*

There's a LOT of stuff over there on my to-do list though, so 3 days probably wouldn't cut it anyway.

You'd come to London for the first time for only 3 days? Dick! You're no longer welcome!

And why would you need car hire? Dick!

DICK DICK DICK DICK DICK DICK!

Anyway, in summary:
You need to come for longer than 3 days, you can't fit anything in in just 3 days. And you absolutely have no need for a car in London. Unless you wanna go get your monthly grocery shop in and have heavy laundry detergent. Is that what you plan on doing over here? Shopping for detergent? Dick!

I DEMAND we go!!

This also answers a question I had; if you had the Wednesday off. And you do! Just wondering what to do with kms726 when she arrives. Could we dump luggage at your work, you think?

Not a problem. Will you need to do yours too?

Thing is, we'll be on the Piccadilly line to get from Heathrow. It's a fairly short trip from Earl's Court to my house and you have to go through Earl's Court to get anywhere from Heathrow.

So yes, it's fine to leave the luggage at work, but I suggest we ditch it at mine instead.

Remind me, what time does the flight land? ie, what time do I have to drag my lazy ass out of bed? I have no intention of going to the airport, I'll let you worry about that, but I'll be up and ready for when the action kicks off.

Also, also... What time does your flight get in? Should I meet you on the Tuesday evening? I know you're staying in a hotel, but if it's early enough we can still meet for a pie and a pint.

Also, also, also... I've eaten a LOT of chocolate biscuits today and have no intention of stopping either.

Well, yeah, fair point. We'll go to yours first. I thought Kelly might like to go out for breakfast, you know, her first proper English one. In a caff (spelling??), obv.

Plane arrives at half eight as I recall - will forward details later. We won't be at yours for until quite a bit later, obv.

I thought Kelly (she needs a proper name, btw) and I might do some shopping on the Wednesday if she was up for it, and much as I know you enjoy plodding about Top Shop, perhaps we could leave yours, you could get some more sleep, and she and I could go out shopping.

Well, yeah, staying at a hotel at Heathrow. I'll be there for about 9 PM-ish, so I couldn't really go anywhere else. And everything closes there at 11. I DO plan on having both pie and pint, but unless you fancy coming up to the airport for the night...

yay - have fun!! You should totally get a union jack t-shirt and go all out with the touristy-ness!

I was actually doing the tourist thing myself today with family visiting for the day, wandering around the Kensington museums.. It's amazing how I never stop to just stop to look in my own city and go - oh wow, there is all this cool stuff around me!

Tell me about it!

I love just looking at the Natural History museum. One of the nicest buildings ever made, inside and out.

Not sure about the Union Jack t-shirt, but I might get a BIG union jack hat.

I think a lot of the visit comes down to inevitability.

The hats. The vomiting after too much Japanese lager. The pregnancies.

Exactly! Very easy to take it all for granted - work / college will always distract you from it. Hence why I've taken the time off especially for the tourism. No distractions, just walking slowly with maps.
