One of the things that most bothers me is the unequal standards between video games and film. The special experts were wondering why Mass Effect wasn't given an AO rating...yet were this a film it certainly would be PG-13...no where near an R film. Heck, it might even get a PG rating. The game is way less graphic than all of those 1970/1980s PG films with full-on breast shots that were everywhere at the time.

And they are complaining that parents have to monitor their children? Crazy!

How about the unequal standard between video games and Fox News?

There is more flesh in this Fox News Alert about a serial killer, then Mass Effect. Which is actually light on the flesh that they normally show. (Note: neither of these links are safe for work, but I guess they are safe for a prime-time "news show").

Um.... ::boggle::

Um...

Wow.

The sex scene in Mass Effect is the culmination of a relationship you build up over time that has depth and is interesting. I was really happy with my toon's relationship with Ash....

...but that serial killer thing? What was that?! Who thought that was in any way appropriate? Why wasn't someone fired. How dare they? The nerve.

What turned me off about the relationship thing in the game was the potential for straight or lesbian relationships. Apparently, two men making the beast with two backs is unheard of in Gamerland.

Gay characters in game are more rare but not unheard of. :)

Oh, yes. Indeed, 4Chan's /v/ board is completely gay for "Big Boss" of the MGS series (and with that ass, who can deny them?!). My comment was more to the point that an apparently blatantly gay character in a game with (potential) sex scenes between characters is of the greatest of sins --- likely because of the perceived threat to heterosexuality, etc.

(I'd also like to point out that most of those characters did appear to be based on conjecture --- and it's almost impossible not to have a character that can be perceived as gay. The issue is with actually stating it, even in a five-minutes-out-of-32+-hours-of-gameplay-with-almost-nothing-showing sort of way.
