And, yes, that matters, if this is his origin story.

Whilst he is not a drunk, he is seen drinking an awful lot, even in the APC he gets kidnapped from in the beginning, and Obadiah Staine makes a comment about "Tony always getting the good stuff" when he samples the whiskey in his office.

Jon Favreau said at some point that they wanted to keep the drinking subtle (to a point) in this one because doing Origin of Iron Man plus combat sequences plus Armor Wars Lite plus Tony Stark Is A Lovable Drunk all in the same film would be a bit much. He promised to do Iron Man Battles Alcoholism next, I think :P

Some how I had already guessed they wouldn't go with the civil war version of iron man, it would have appealed to Marvel fans but very few other people.
