Big Brother goes to the store...and follows you home. Or at least online.

I do not approve.  Neither does the writer of this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/17/business/17digi.html?th&emc=th.

Run ads--I don't care and I don't pay attention anyways.  Send me an email because I didn't buy your crap?  I don't think I'll ever go back.  I don't need a stalker, k thanx bai.

That's just disturbing. Unless I absolutely cannot find a certain thing anywhere else, I'd just dump any site that does that on the roadside and never go near it again.

On the other hand, you could give them the phone number of, say, Pizza Hut or something. (Hey, I've never once seen a form that said that the phone number had to be yours) Businesses being irritated by businesses. It might start something.

or use disposable or known (to you) bad email addresses.

At one time I had quite a number of email aliases sitting on my server for just that reason.

I was just thinking...what if all the army sites did this? Or do they?

I should hope not...but then, I don't visit army sites. Recruiters just keep calling my mom because I did well on some test or another four or five years ago now. :/

I wholeheartedly do *NOT* approve.

I don't see ads for the large majority of stuff. (Adblock and Noscript plugins for Firefox are win) but yeah, sending me 'remarketing' emails is the absolute fastest way to get your domain blacklisted by me and probably the more rabid folks out there.

If I add stuff to my cart and abandon it, it means I was doing a price check or decided not to buy- leave me the hell alone.

Orbitz did it to me...guess where I'm not buying a plane ticket again. I don't care if it is easier to compare prices that way.
