Quest for Color pages 19-24

Back for the fourth installment of Quest for Color.

This is also one of my favorite pages, especially the last panel because of their facial expressions. It is also the set-up page for the mermaid girl's backstory.

And this is the page of her backstory. The borders are wavy to denote a flashback. In this flashback we see the second (and last) appearance of the monster thing that stole the color crystals from the wizard. The girl stumbles upon this crystal that saves her when the thing that stole the crystal in the first place tries to kill her, and the monster, who you never see, ends up drowning because that was the easiest way to both explain and get rid of him.

This page and the last one were actually supposed to be on one page, but I had to split them up for space purposes. I this actually happened in a couple of spots later on when the story became more dialogue-heavy. There was a lot of information once the girl came into the picture that I had to squeeze in, and I even had to cut some of it. But I was able to get my point across with what I kept in, I think.

This is probably one of the most pivotal points in the story, when the girl decides to go with the boy. It might be a good idea to just mention their names here-- the girl's name is Marina, which is an obvious reference to water. In Latin it means, "Of the sea." But Lance, as I found out after I named him (he was originally going to be a knight), is Old English for "land," which I thought was interesting because it means basically that he is land and she is water. So they belong together. Which is why the last panel in which he says "I will steady you" even better.

The most important panel in this one is obviously the last one. The boy is never really aware of the real reason he was picked for this journey until the last panel and the first panels on the following page. Which was actually supposed to be all on the same page, but again, I had to rearrange some things.

But now, flashing back, he figures it out. And aside for the first panel, I like this page for the same reason as I liked one of the earlier pages, for the simplicity of the images.

Alrighty, well, I hope you're liking it so far. The last installment will be coming soon.
