I'm surprised there isn't more out there on this. But it's been reported as a possible release along fault lines. Gas releases like this have been documented before earthquakes before, so there's some concern there.

However, I found reports last night that at least a few days old ground based sensors were not corroborating the satellite data.

So...it could be a sign of "The Big One." It could be a sensor glitch. Or, it could be just some weird release of gas.

Looks like it could be attributed to forest fires in the area(s) as well.
