From what I'm led to believe, the show's been on a decline for a while, ever since the ascendancy of Elmo. I can't legitimately comment further, though, not having seen any Sesame Street in several years now - probably sometime in the 90s.

How did things get this far anyway? I assume Children's Television Workshop saw the dollar signs when Elmo became a toy phenomenon..
