Hey Ducky. Glad to see your support for the writers. I am a strong supporter of the writers, even more so after watching the tape they put together on youtube explaining why they are striking.
I'm appauled to think that they only get 4 cents for each DVD that is sold while the studios and reap all the profits. There is nothing wrong in asking for 8 cents per DVD sale and download. Downloads are not promos as the Studio bosses would have us believe. The writers are only asking for their fair share of the profits and nothing more.
I'm bracing for a long strike but at least I subscribe to Netflix so I can get caught up on shows like 30 Rock, The Office, and Nip/Tuck-which are great shows but I just don't have the time to watch. I hope that if the studios insist on filling the airwaves with mindless reality shows, we as a viewing audience will boycott them so the Studios have no choice but to go back to negotiating with the writers.
I have never been much for reality programming. I lived through the writers' strike of 1988, and I seem to recall that the replacement programming was mostly reality and game show type programs, none of which really tripped my trigger. They still don't. I will occasionally turn on a reality show that is very popular, just to keep current with what everyone is talking about in the blogs, but I've found that they are pretty much all the same - trashy people willing to do outrageous, ridiculous, or downright disgusting things for money.
If you have a Myspace, there is a page there called UnitedHollywood that is sort of the WGA strike center on Myspace. There are lots of links to articles and videos there about the strike, and exactly who is trying to fool whom. I have always been amazed at the audacity of studio executives in suggesting that writers are too greedy, when all they are asking for is a fair share based on their work.

I boggle at studio execs who tout earnings and then cry poverty to the writers.
