If you squeeze me, I may give "whine"...

May 30, 2008 17:50

A couple of very nice friends of mine kindly offered to take me to do my BIG grocery shopping today. Normally, this kind of shopping is one of my favorite things to do, because I have a fondness for giggling over the new items and buying lots of Cheez-Its. Today, however, was NOT a fun, ducky kind of shopping day. ( And here is why, in a long, ranty kind of thing... )

Kroger. Amazingly enough, before they changed management last year, this was about my favorite grocery store on the entire planet. I knew all the personnel, and they always treated the customers well. Now, it seems they have taken up the habit of hiring bodies to fill positions instead of people what actually want to work for a living and do the actual job they were hired to do. The two people that were trying to be helpful today (Mike and Brian) were folks I have known for several years. The rest were newbies.

*slaps the produce clerk and cashier repeatedly about the head and neck*

That being said, follow up with the manager if he hasn't called. Insist that they mail you a copy of the incident report. If they drag their feet about this, go up the chain until it is taken care of.

I would also write a formal letter of complaint outlining the issues. I am sure the produce manager will take care of that stupid clerk but I think the entire management team needs to have a refresher with the crew on the basics of customer service.

Absolutely, will be following up on this,on local and corporate levels. It's now hours later, and my backside is still so bruised that I can barely sit on it without pain, and have to sit leaning on the left side of my behind with an ice pack under the right. What really scared me was, after they got me a different cart, I saw another woman using the cart I had already crashed in. They must have decided to just put it back with the others and let people continue to use it. I rolled right over and warned her that it has bad brakes, and I had already crashed it earlier. Something else to add to my incident report when the manager calls back, and to address with corporate.

As a retail salesperson and a server at a restaurant, I APPLAUD YOU!!!!!!!! You have no idea how exasperating it is to work with this generation of retail-workers nowadays. They have no work ethic, no respect, no compassion, and are nothing but selfish. I may not always want to be at work, but I always give my customers 98% or better.

I get very pissed most shopping/dining trips due to the fact that I can't stand poor service. I don't do it, so I can't tolerate it. HERE HERE!!!!

*hugs* and I hope your tailfeathers mend nicely!

I agree, it is annoying. Especially when you have been there, done that, and KNOW what sort of standard you should be able to expect. Maybe it's because of the thing about being in a wheelchair now, but I find myself actually speaking up about it more than I used to. I used to shrug it off, then just never give them repeat business. Now, I find myself appalled enough to actually ask for a manager and say "WTF?" When I was working, I would as soon cut off my own arm as to NOT offer to help someone who was obviously having difficulties. Maybe it's just that we were raised better? I don't know, but it's a scary trend, and I don't like it.

Eeeek! ducky fall down go boom! I'm sorry that you got caught up in the crossfire of the fight between the grocery cart and the raisin shelf. I hope it doesn't cause you anymore pain than you already have. Don't give up on that incident report, just incase you do suffer more pain ( ... )

The sad part is that the Kroger where this happened used to be the most customer-friendly stores around. I even worked there for a short time before my leg problems took me off the job force. Their training program completely pushed the "customer and safety first" aspects of retail, and the people you worked with while you were still training took the time to show you how to do it well. I'm sure the training program itself hasn't changed that much, as it was a three day program of video instructions, accompanied by several hours of hands-on training with a veteran cashier. I think it's the quality of the people being hired and the people doing the training that seems to have changed. Once again, that reflects on the management - they are not bothering to hire people who really care about doing a job well, nor are they working with the employees to make sure they have learned the job. I have a feeling there aren't very many of us "old school" type cashiers and clerks left in the business, and it makes me sad. (LOL over "I apologize" as ( ... )

It all boils down to management. If management doesn't take people to task for their mistakes, they're going to slack off every time. Employees will become lazy in how they do things because no one is making them do a better job. This is especially true if you hire younger people who haven't worked much yet, and are still forming their work ethic. (I'm sorry younger people who may be reading this, I mean no disrespect, but come on, you know that most of you would rather party than work unless someone makes you. :P I'm a cynical older person! You smoochers get off my lawn ( ... )

I'm still the sore and achy ducky today, and even blew off church because I don't know if i will be able to sit still for that long without moving around off the bruised spot. I can tell it is pretty badly bruised, but not broken, and I am always so slow to heal, I figure it will be a few days before it is not so painful. Still, if it is not feeling somewhat less ouchey by Tuesday, I will head off to the ER for pictures of it and send the bill to Kroger. I can't go tomorrow, because the new computer is coming tomorrow to be installed, and the building maintenance guy is also coming earlier in the day to remove some junk he has left in my apartment. My building maintenance guy is kind of an idiot, so I want to be here when he comes to make sure he doesn't miss anything this time. I also don't completely trust him, as he is kind of flaky, and don't want him to be alone in my apartment at any time.
