I'm not sure what your gut was telling you the day you met me, but if you said anything to Gibbs while I was meeting Abby, thank you. I never thought some snarky waitress would make much of an impression on Gibbs. And so I look to you and Abby.
Hard to believe it's been the better part of a decade.
You have always been more than a snarky waitress. And Jethro, I think, delights in hiring people who fall outside the norm. Look at Abigail and myself- neither of us are what you would call typical in our respective fields. Tony, if you remember, seemed to be the farthest thing from a proper NCIS agent when he first arrived. And yet it's the people like Viv Blackadder, former of the FBI, that don't stay on Jethro's team for long while while snarky waitresses and doddering old MEs do.
It's funny. It's all sort of crept up on me. If I could see myself the day before I came in for the job interview and give that snarky, nervous, exhausted waitress a rundown of a typical day for me now, she'd probably promptly disappear. There have been times...
You and Abby are so brilliant in what you do, Ducky. Even a blind man couldn't miss that. I don't know what Gibbs would do without the people around him who put up with the head-thwapping, the long hours, the cell phones on high alert every minute of the day, and not even God himself would be able to help me if I didn't have a replacement phone ready for him at any time.
I wouldn't trade any of you for anything.
As for Viv, she joined up for the wrong reason. And she tried to tell me what my job was. Even after a month, she still didn't know my name because it wasn't deemed vital information.
