Ahoy, me hearties!

Sep 19, 2005 22:54

Thankin' Cap'n reaps and the fine crew of the Duyfken for a Talk Like a Pirate Day to remember.

Our motley assortment o' salty dogs and comely wenches voyaged from Ye Olde Swanne Brew'ry to the Horn of Dalkeith and back, and partook of some grog and vittles on the way.

Yarr! )

I am fairly confident that you'll find it is a matchlock.

(View of lock)

You keep the piece of wick smouldering and when you push the trigger is it brought into contact with the flashpan. Significantly less high tech than a flintlock or a wheellock. The biggest problem being that the match goes out.

Arr, our timbers weren't nearly as shivered without ye.

Could be hard to top it - this time next year I heard it said that the Duyfken would be on a longer voyage of its own! I wonder if the Endeavour's coming back to Fremantle...
