can someone explain the ironic cover to me? as in, why does it exist? by ironic cover, i mean like when punk bands or metal bands or cooler than cool indie bands cover really great pop songs. i am specifically thinking of that ted leo cover of kelly clarkson's excellent song "since u been gone." that song owns my life. kelly clarkson is amazing,

i liked the local h version of 'toxic' a hell of a lot better than i liked the original. maybe it's not so much a snobby indie thing so much as they're just not in to the voice. or much like pennywise when they covered 'i want it that way' the band just really digs the song and it's just the poser fans of that band who need to fuck off and die with the elitist attitude.
