FIC: Prompt #5, Chapters 25-32 (COMPLETE)
MOD NOTE: This year, we're thrilled to receive an entry that by its length would qualify the writer for NaNoWriMo! At over 51,000 words, "Dudley Dursley and the New Normal" is by far a greater creation than we'd ever expected.
So that people have time to read and digest it, we're posting the fic in four parts, on each of the four Saturdays of the fest. We're not sure Dudley could read it any faster, and we want him to keep up as well as the rest of you! The sections will be posting on our sister community on Dreamwidth, since we can post entries of over 10k there. (Other 10k+ entries will also be posted there). Please comment on the main LiveJournal entry, however, so that the comments can be easily tracked by folks who have LJ but not DW accounts.

Title: Dudley Dursley and the New Normal

Prompt: When Harry personally goes to pick up his family at their safe house, it's only to find a massive, bloody mess. Vernon, Petunia, and their small group of guardians are all dead, leaving Dudley alone and turned into a werewolf. Dudley fights when Harry takes him in, but eventually accepts what has happened and redeems himself with Harry's help. Bonus points for Teddy latching onto him as a surrogate father (but it isn't necessary). [I did not stick to this completely, but hopefully the deviations are acceptable.]
Pairing, or gen: Mostly gen, some background pairings.
Rating: PG-13 to R
Warning(s): Character death, violence, gore, drug use, adult language, references and allusions to child abuse, references to suicide
Word count/medium: This section- ~14,000 / Entire fic- ~51,000
Summary/Excerpt: Bad things happen. Life gets strange. Dudley tries to carve out a little bit of normality in a world that has gone mad around him.
Author's or Artist's notes: This prompt really took a hold of me and got longer than I ever imagined. Thank you to whoever prompted this, and especially to my beta for all her hard work.
