‎"Yess, I hear," hissed Harry. "You are an Animaguss?"

"Obvioussly," hissed the snake. "Thirty-sseven ruless, number thirty-four: Become Animaguss. All ssensible people do, if can. Thuss, very rare."

-HPMOR

Serious question: What one thing do all sensible people do (if they can) in real life?

My brain randomly suggests martial arts, but I don't think that's right. "Learn to program" seems sensible, if self-congratulatory. Any others?

I agree with "learn to program". Some skills I learned from a Rogerian counselling book have been useful to me my whole adult life, too.

Post OB/LW, I'd have to add: learn about cognitive biases, sign up for cryonics.

1) Prepare pie.

2) Consume pie.

3) Breathe.

Relying on friends and professionals to prepare pie is working out well for me :)

Saving money is something all sensible people should do.

I'd be inclined to say "learn meditation", since the available evidence shows big decreases in how unpleasant pain is experienced as even after a short practice period. E.g. http://www.neuro.cjb.net/content/31/14/5540.full :

"After 4 d of mindfulness meditation training, meditating in the presence of noxious stimulation significantly reduced pain unpleasantness by 57% and pain intensity ratings by 40% when compared to rest."
