1. UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SO LAST NIGHT AT TRIVIA WE TOTALLY DOMINATED? It was me and Kate and Kate's old man boyf, who is old but also CAN STAY because he rounded out things super nicely and talked just the right amount. AND WE KICKED EVERYONE'S ASS! AT NO POINT WERE WE NOT IN THE LEAD! SUCK IT, EVERYONE ELSE AT TRIVIA! Going into the final round we ( Read more... )

I feel like I need to watch Hawaii 5-0 so I can fully appreciate the awesomeness of your recap posts. (Although, shallowly, I think Grace Park and Alex O'Laughlin are pretty and would look pretty together. I do get the sense that I'm not suppose to want that?!?)

LBD - the ultimate goal here is amping up Lizzie's sense of "I could never belong here" before the Lydia hits the fan - would have been for Gigi and Bing to get carried away with having a conversation Lizzie couldn't relate to or contribute to.
YES. This would have been so much better and still be super awkward.

And trivia! Was this Pub trivia?!? BECAUSE I LOVE TRIVIA. And I need to go. Soon.

These two episodes and the Girl Scouts one I watched last month are the only Five-0 I've watched in over a year, so I'm not the most qualified to say if the show actually delivers any quality Steve/Kono these days, and I thiiiiiiink the bigger Kono ship tends to be Danny/Kono, BUT STEVE/KONO WORKS, HONESTLY. Basically they're all gorgeous people who save each other's lives in outlandish ways and blow shit up together all the time, THERE'S NO WRONG WAY TO SHIP ( ... )

Oh! I only was wondering because I mentioned it to a friend who loves the show and was all like - "Ew! No!!! She's like his sister!!!" So I was left kind of floundering, because, dude, they are pretty together.

PUB TRIVIA! Man, I definitely need to go. It's been too long!

I just think a better way of getting there - particularly if, as I've seen speculated, the ultimate goal here is amping up Lizzie's sense of "I could never belong here" before the Lydia hits the fan - would have been for Gigi and Bing to get carried away with having a conversation Lizzie couldn't relate to or contribute to.

You're right, I think this was definitely the intention! The way I actually read that scene, or the way I actually read Lizzie, is that she wasn't necessarily being socially inept so much as she was... kind of subconsciously being a bit of a snob (reverse snob?) and wanting to radiate disapproval? This is a potentially kind of controversial thing to say, but I think we live in a day and age where there's a lot more resentment for the "haves" of society - the "one per cent" - than there was before, and Lizzie strikes me as the type of person who might have opinions about that even if she likes Gigi (maybe not so much Bing right now) otherwise. Like, it may not be explicit/overt and she may not be fully aware of it ( ... )

I can totally see Lizzie having that attitude, especially in this situation, where Gigi's asking what is, honestly, a stupid question that would give Lizzie an easy opportunity to feel sort of superior. [I will never stop laughing about the girl I went to high school with who expected a Green Line conductor to have change for a fifty, it will just never not be funny, and there is that vindicating little thrill of "you may have more than I do, but this is proof that I'm better off."]

Still - maybe it's just me imposing my own reactions and experience on Lizzie, but even in that context I just can't buy her non-response to the question, given that she's a grown woman who's spent a lot of time with these people and generally likes them.

I definitely found her non-response a little bit jarring too, given exactly the points you've enumerated here - I think the writers probably could have written that scene in a more organic way. My brain just kind of fan-wanked it that there was no way Lizzie could be that dumb, so it had to be that she was operating from some sort of "moral-superiority-fueled" type mindset.

Aw, that's a bit embarrassing for sure! Hopefully she's grown up some since then.

CONGRATS ON KICKING TRIVIA'S ASS!! I both desperate want to know and remain clueless about what question could possibly have Windex, Sharpies and pregnancy test as an answer. And what were the prizes?!! hopefully not something that is super awkward to split between teammates, I never understand why they make it so freaking DIFFICULT.

That whiteboard is amazing and reason enough for me to check out another episode of Go On (I liked the pilot, just never added it into my regular rotation, I'm lazy)

The gist of the question was that Forbes did a study and determined that [UNKNOWN ITEM] was the best dollar store deal, since it cost an average of $8 at Walgreens but off-brand ones could be purchased at dollar stores for...well, a dollar. Kate said Sharpies, which I nixed because I didn't think it would be something that would vary so much in quantity [single markers, two packs, four packs, twenty packs], and I said Windex, which Kate nixed because I have no idea how much things cost and Windex is not eight dollars anywhere ever. So we said zebras! But it was pregnancy tests. As the trivia dude said, "they're just as accurate as name brands, but you have to wait six to eight months for the results." BAZINGA!
