ETA 5/21/14: HI, JOSH. IS IT REALLY NECESSARY TO CHECK IN ON THIS POST FROM TIME TO TIME? BECAUSE YOU DO IT KIND OF A LOT. YOU DO YOU, I GUESS, BUT IT'S A LITTLE WEIRD TO KEEP COMING BACK AROUND TEN MONTHS AFTER I BLOCKED YOU. MAYBE LET IT GO.

crossposted from tumblr because tumblr is a nightmare hellscape with no comment system, and fuck if i'm putting this much time and effort into saying something that nobody can comment on )

Teresa Palmer would make a great Artemis. She's beautiful and a fantastic actress so don't hate on her!

People are constantly trying to cast black actresses as Wonder Woman and everyone is on board with the reverse whitewashing so yeah.

I like Teresa Palmer a lot! She doesn't even know about any of this, it would be ridiculous to hate on her for it. What I said was that it's an asshole move to cast her as Artemis ( ... )

Why do you hate white people so much? You have a lot of hatred and anger issues to work on. You are a reverse racist.

"SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE WHITE" does not absolve you of potential racism (and I refuse to use the term reverse racist, because I don't believe only white's/caucasians are the only ones capable of racism, in America, OR ANYWHERE for that matter).

In fact it feels like ALOT of your comments and this thread smacks of the mentality of "it's okay to be prejudice against whites/non-POC because they're the majority".

The comment being "I want a fancast of Artemis as half-Asian and blonde, or Asian or half-Asian of ANY hair color, or nothing, yes, mainly because if you're not going to even try to do it right, then you shouldn't do it at all." being the biggest offender. Basically it feels like your saying it's okay to dismiss one side of her heritage (the white/caucasian one) ONLY because of media representation. Sorry but in what world is saying "a full asian can play a half asian/half caucasian character, BUT if a FULL caucasian plays a half asian/half caucasian, than IT'S NOT RIGHT", not in the least bit racist or prejudice?

Okay but I asked a white person about it and they said I wasn't being racist.

Do you have any fancasts for Artemis that you could share? TBH honest I've been pretty bad about whitewashing Artemis but I am against whitewashing and don't like being part of the problem. I looked for blonde-Asian fancasts but all I could find were teeny bopper Korean Pop singers with bad dye jobs. I eventually gave up and just started using blonde white actresses - which I know is wrong. It's not exactly the same but I am Jewish and I freaking hate when a character's Jewish identity is erased or only played for laughs.

So who would you fancast? Is it better to just fancast an Asian actress with dark hair? Does the actress have to be half-white half-Vietnamese, all Vietnamese or is it enough to pick any Asian actress for representation?

Fancasting isn't something I'm into, so I really can't be of much help - Malese Jow went blonde for like five seconds once and is the Artemis fancast of my heart, although I know that in terms of RPing and stuff like that people need a larger body of photos/gifs to work with. Someone put together giant gif posts for two possible Artemis fancasts, if that helps at all.

As far as who I'd go with if it came down to ethnicity OR hair - I'd absolutely go with an Asian actress who wasn't blonde. If you HAVE to sacrifice one or the other, it comes down to which you think is more important, doesn't it? Visually - she looks SO MUCH like Jade other than the hair. We're talking about "handwaving the character's hair color" vs "handwaving the character's face." I could go out and dye my hair tomorrow and I'd still fundamentally look like myself, but if I suddenly had a different face, I'd be unrecognizable. And in terms of who Artemis is as a person, being half Vietnamese has far more to do with her life and her history and her understanding of ( ... )

Im showing up a few years late to this party, but Gina Darling is Vietnamese and Russian. I think she is PERFECT for Artemis.

Too bad they yellow washed and brown washed the original white characters to appease the race pitchforkers like you. Get educated about these things before you make a moron out of yourself complaining about it.

buddy it’s 2020 and this post was made in 2013 to object to something that was happening in 2013, are there just...not enough opportunities out there for you to be a more current/topical racist? like i promise you don’t have to look far, there are a HUGE number of things you can be a racist about that are all happening right now!
