Headcanon can go either way but I think IN GENERAL it tends to go better in fandoms like Pacific Rim where the universe has actually been planned out and you can reasonably expect that there are right and wrong answers and you're just trying to extrapolate the right ones, vs something like Teen Wolf where there are GAPS EVERYWHERE and nobody, least of all Jeff Davis, knows or cares what the fuck happens in those gaps, so it's a total crapshoot, but fans don't treat the source material like the UNSTABLE HEAP OF JUNK it is and pretend like all of their ridiculous headcanons are legit and become insufferable about it. STILES IS ~THE SPARK~ WHICH MEANS HE'S MAGIC AND SPECIAL BUT UGH GROSS @ SCOTT BEING A "TRUE ALPHA" NOBODY IS HERE FOR CHOSEN ONES.

But Pacific Rim feels a lot like Young Justice to me in that I feel like I've been given the tools to make REALLY GOOD GUESSES about things, which makes filling in the gaps way more enjoyable than it would be in a sloppier story.
