The ground beneath his paws had shifted and before he could blink, the clicking of Diefenbaker's nails against asphalt had been replaced with the soft crunch of snow beneath him

For one brief, terrifying moment Ray thought the snowman he'd been thinking about destroying was running headlong for him. Like some kind of Minority Report-esque act of revenge before he'd even kicked it in the face.
Leaping out of the way with a yelp, he turned to see the giant white ball of fur sprinting away and it didn't take him long to recognise who it was. Dief did notice that he was trailed now, but that didn't stop him or slow his pace any. He only came to a full halt when he reached the door of a small house. Sniffing at the hinged, he pawed at the door, whining and barking as he waited for Ray to catch up.
Months it had been since he'd last seen the wolf and Ray didn't think he'd gotten so unfit as to not be able to keep up now. He couldn't remember Dief moving this fast in a long time.
Ray had to follow the paw prints since he'd lost sight of their maker a while ago and it seemed like forever before the sight of his own hut appeared over the mounds of snow.
"You've brought me home?" Ray wheezed, bent over and leaning on his knees. "We ran all the way and this is where you brought me? What are you, the little piggy?"
Barking in response, Dief ran towards Ray when he stopped, leaping up and bracing his front paws against him and then darting back to the door again. Another bark and his tail wagged as he stared at Ray expectantly.
