OK, this was *going* to be about Turnbull. Then it kind of grew...
This was going to be a few questions regarding the character whom a friend of mine has referred to as "The dorkiest character in all of TV-Land" (actual quote is here). Then it grew. As a result, here's the general speculation on ages and originating locales of the main characters. Things I still need feedback/help on are in bold.
Fraser: In the Pilot, it's mentioned that he's been on the force 13 years. That puts him graduating Depot in 1982. One can enter Depot at 19, and with 24 weeks of training he could hypothetically have joined the force still at the age of 19 (Although processing of applications can take between 12-18 months, he only had to be 19 at the time he entered the training academy). Youngest, he's 32 in the Pilot. Being Bob Fraser's son and avid for a Northern posting, he'd have had a better shot at getting in straight off had he wanted it, most likely. If he attended Uni before joining the RCMP one can add another 4 years for a standard Bachelor's Degree program (But if he's a winter baby he could have started Uni as early as 17, so he'd still enter the RCMP at 20/21). He doesn't have to be 19 to begin at Uni, so that puts him at 33-36 in the Pilot, depending on time of year and year of birth. Info on RCMP Recruiting and training comes from the RCMP site here.
TV Seasons normally run 1 year to a season, so figure from there. From Burning Down the House (03x01), we know that Fraser was conceived in an igloo North of the Clyde River, which is located in current day Nunavut (Map of Nunavut), which would have been NWT back when he was born. We don't know if Caroline and baby Benton moved repeatedly after his birth or lead a more settled life. Several towns in NWT are listed in the Pilot as to where he was raised by his grandparents following his mother's death. These include X, Y, and Inuvik.
Actor: Paul Gross was born 30 April, 1959. That puts him at 35 when the pilot aired, roughly the same age as Fraser if he'd attended Uni prior to Depot. Otherwise he was cast a few years older than his character.
Ray Vecchio: Born May 26, year unknown. This comes from the date on the paper in Eclipse (03x02), where we are told it is RayV's Birthday. Do we have specific age references in Episodes? If someone can list them in the comments, I'll put them up here. We know the character is a born and bred-Chicagoan.
Actor: David Marciano was born 7 January, 1960. That puts him at 34 when the pilot aired. If Paul Gross is any indication, the characters and actors were reasonably close in age, so if I can't find better corroboration this might be something to use.
Ray Kowalski: He's filling in for Vecchio (no matter how physically dissimilar), so he's most likely a relatively close age. Given his claim of being 13 at the time of the Ellery Robbery in 1974 in Eclipse (03x02), we can extrapolate that he was born in either late 1960 or early 1961 (Thanks to kindkit for pointing that out). That makes him either 36 or 37 in Season 3 when we meet him. We know the character is a born and bred Chicagoan. According to bkwyrm, his accent is more South Side, so he may have been raised there and moved to the North Side (where his apartment is in the series) in later years or w/ the shift to the undercover job. If I can get more in the comments, I'll put it up.
Actor: Callum Keith Rennie was born 14 September, 1960. That puts him at just under 37 when season 3 aired. He's the youngest of the 3 principle actors. Again, if I don't get more specific feedback, this may be a decent base for the character's age given the close ages of PG and BF.
Turnbull: According to kijikun (Who's supposedly putting together a Uniform Info post for us), Turnbull's single star on his left sleeve indicates 5 years of service at minimum, and under 10 (A "One Star Constable"). Given that he has the single star in Season 2, and still in COTW, he couldn't have more than 7 years of service maximum when we meet him or he'd have made 2 star somewhere in there. Like Fraser, he had the option of either applying to RCMP at 19 or attending Uni first, so you have an age window. Youngest, he's 24 in S2(Entered RCMP @ 19), oldest he's 29(18 entering Uni, 4 years Uni, 7 years RCMP). Now, in COTW (finale) he refers to the fact that has never flown, so we can rule out the territories for a Point of Origin, but most of the Provinces are train and car accessible so the rest of Canada is possible, if less likely. Do we know where he's from? (In fic, I've tended to see him portrayed as being from Ontario, but I wanted to know if there was actual canon support for that or not).
