Writer's Block: True Crime

Jan 15, 2009 10:40

1987/88 a girl I went to summer camp with was found bludgened to death in Orange County, CA. The case was never solved. This is THE  ONE  that  most fascinates me.

One for everybody -  Jack the Ripper - who was he? I think that one author did a pretty  good job of "solving" it, but still...

crime, writer's block, murder

Oh, wow! That is probably very scary, to have someone you know taken so brutally.

It wasn't so much scary as odd/creepy. I don't know if you've ever done the "camp thing" but you bond so intensely with people in such a short time. Technically you could say I barely knew this girl, but I mourned her death as if she were one of my closest friends.
Then to add to the weirdness of it all - during the investigation we started finding out all this stuff about her history we didn't know, and they questioned nearly every guy in our "inner circle". It was surreal. When I look back now, it is sad, and tragic that her killer was never brought to justice, but I have a good reason to think she was very troubled and probably living a Hellish existence. Possibly in some twisted way it was a blessing.
