Damn poor jensen has to hide who he is in order to be accepted than jared comes along and breaks through all of these barriers just so that jensen can go to the other side he hated as a youth and only jared can get back in to let him see the light absolutely fantastic story i enjoyed reading every chapter.
I have! And I didn't really intend to do that, plus it's been so long and I barely remember that one, but I just like the idea of him getting Jared out and all but forcing him to ditch :-D
Oh, this is wonderful. I even forgive you for your teasing (and that sneak peak that told me nothing).
Your Jensen is so closed-off and complex and fuck-all, and I like how Jared feels drawn to him without being able to ever really putting a finger on why. It's great that you dare make Jensen a bit of an asshole and less-than-model student and that he does corrupt Jared a little (with the alcohol and cigarettes, I mean, not with teh gay). I also like how he doesn't learn the error of his ways by the end of the story.
Throughout the fic, it's not all clear-cut and squeaky clean, and even with the sex scenes cut out, this could never be a Disney movie. I love that. (Though I DO love Disney movies, too, and all the fic that came out of j2_everafter, don't get me wrong.)
Haha, I do realize that tease hardly showed anything all. I'm glad though because I feel like this whole story was a slow reveal of both guys, mostly Jensen. Slowly showing who he really is in HS and then slowly showing us what he feels as an adult.
And yeah, it's not totally clean, even when it's not obviously bad or dirty. I like straying the line in either direction.
Excellent story. Beautifully done. You took a well-travelled path and twisted it all over the place. I love how you don't go for the obvious, and I love this Jensen, in all his complications and strengths and vulnerabilities. I could have stayed with these two for a lot longer.
Your dialogue is always brilliant, but this one has your wonderful sense of place, too. There was a kind of nostalgia that was built into it from the beginning. I knew they'd end up back at that old tree, and that was such a bittersweet moment.
Is it weird that I couldn't wait to hear from you on this because I know you like the long stuff?
Thank you so, so much. I'm so happy that you liked complicated Jensen, that he wasn't an easy person - to himself or others. And thank you for the comments on dialogue, I really love writing banter and making people talk around each other because that's realistic, no easy answers or talks.
LOL! Oh, yes, it's the long story that captures me. Harder to structure, harder to maintain, and you are sooo damn good at doing both.
Oh, the other thing I loved was that there was no realisation for the ones there at his high school, no big confrontation. They will go on re-writing history ("Yeah, Jensen Ackles? Me and him went to school together, great guy. We were like that!") as people do the world over when someone rises above the pack.
Yes, I think this is one I'll revisit, because I think there was a lot to it. It's staying with me. You did beautifully, hon. Not that you need me to tell you that!
Aww, thank you bb. There are times I really love the investment and worldbuilding, so I'm glad it works for everyone :-D
YES. I mean, there is no definite resolution for anyone, just the forward movement that Jensen's going to make time/effort/whatever for Jared. But he doesn't get his last digs in or make a show of how he's so much better without those people, or how pathetic they all are now, or how they're all lying to themselves that they were all ever friends. I like focusing more on his response to it all.
I must confess that I've been feeling this in a way lately ... hanging at a bar not too far from my high school, even when I live 30 minutes away now, and running into people from high school. It always feels so put-on when they try to talk about HS and us and all, and I want to be like 'I hardly KNEW you then. You're just a familiar face,' yet they keep try talking to me because I know the DJ or the bartender. Blah.
Oh the end was awesome because of the hint into the future!
Aww I loved this honey! JENSEN being the one corrupting then coming back and them together and everything. This was adorable, hot, amazing, lovely, and WIN.
Thank you! I really loved the idea that Jared would try to get to know quiet Jensen but Jensen actually turns the tables and winds up showing Jared a thing or two.
And I'm glad you like the ending, I really do love it, too.
