Jared's first visit to LA

Title from James Morrison

It was an understatement that Jared was nervous. He was pretty sure that he was allowed to be, considering it was the first time they would see each other since Jensen flew back to Los Angeles.

All through checking baggage, walking through security, and waiting at the gate to board, he wondered how convinced Jensen was that it was a good idea. They’d talked plenty over the last six months. Enough to satisfy him that Jensen wasn’t losing touch for another 15 years, because he highly doubted Jensen would call while on location and/or in between filming breaks if there wasn’t some intention there.

But there had been a long pause when Jared mentioned visiting. It was a pause that kept playing out in his head, especially with the way Jared had tacked on, “I bet L.A. would be a good way to waste away my spring break,” and Jensen mumbled a ‘yeah, it’s warm.’

It wasn’t helped when he landed at LAX and a tall blonde woman held a sign with J. Padalecki scribbled on it.

He slowed as he neared her and she stood tall with a small smirk. “Jared.”

“Yeah?”

Her mouth twisted with a strange smirk, and then she nodded and walked to the left. “This way.”

Jared had to pick up his step to keep up with her. “Where’re we going?”

“To the house,” she replied simply.

He frowned and deadpanned, “Great, the house. Thank you for clarifying that.”

Before he knew it, she led him to a dark sedan, all but pushing him into the back seat and then sliding in next to him. He idly wondered if it was how Jensen travelled, with some girl shoving him into every place he had to be, and if it was something Jensen even needed or enjoyed.

“Based on our relationship, he really hates it,” she answered his distracted mumbling without looking up from her Blackberry. “But he does need it.”

It all dawned on him and Jared nodded with a twisted smile. “You’re Katie.”

“Don’t get too excited.”

Jared scratched through his hair and tried to smile, but he felt how awkward it was. “I’m trying. Trust me.”

The only other words she said during the ride were to the driver; a quick, “Go in the back,” as the car pulled through the gates at the drive.

He saw it then; cameras and reporters and fans milling around the entryway. Not a lot, but enough to be annoying, surely. Jared cleared his throat. “They here every day?”

Her high eyebrow and frown were the answer. When they exited the car and were shrouded by bushes and fencing, she muttered, “His new movie is gonna be gangbusters. Unfortunately so are the nasty attention whores.”

“That’s why we’re going backdoor,” he mumbled with a shake of his head.

“I thought you’d like that touch,” she said with an amused glance.

Jared tipped his head and tried to look annoyed, but he was kind of laughing himself.

Katie led him into the kitchen and handed out quick directions as the driver deposited Jared’s baggage then went back to the car. “The staff’s off for the weekend - they don’t know about … you, and don’t need to,” she added on quietly. “So don’t go expecting anyone to do your laundry or bring you towels out of the shower. He has a few phone interviews tomorrow. He’s cranky first thing in the morning and will leave without a word for training appointments.”

“I’m not playing his assistant,” Jared said awkwardly.

“Yeah, I know,” she sighed.

“Leave him alone, shit,” came Jensen’s voice before he was even in sight.

“I’m laying down the ground rules, Jensen,” she tacked on, ignoring when he did enter, grab a bottle of water from the fridge, and lean against it with a frown. “He’s not leaving this house until he leaves the state. We don’t need him roaming the grounds and getting seen.”

“Great, thanks for the warning,” Jensen grumbled. “Now, what I need is for you to leave.”

“I’m taking the week off. Don’t kill yourself.”

With a forced smile, Jensen replied, “I’ll try not to.”

She tipped her head. “You’re gonna miss me. I can feel it.”

“I’m sure I’ll find a way to survive. I do now have the option of sex.”

Katie rolled her eyes, tossing a hand into the air as she headed for the door. “I hate when you say shit like that.”

He smirked, “You could’ve left ten minutes ago and avoided the moment.”

Another roll of her eyes and she was gone. Jared’s only response was a quiet whistle.

Jensen laughed. “So that’s Katie.”

“So I’ve noticed.”

“She’s not totally horrible, but she is efficient as hell.” Jensen sipped from his bottle then rested more comfortably against the counter, bare feet crossing. Jared then took in all of Jensen, with the soft v-neck tee and ragged jeans fitting just right while making him look so down home. Even when leaning against black marble countertops in a kitchen half the size of Jared’s entire apartment. “How was your flight?”

“It was good. Felt long, though.”

Jensen nodded and gave a tight smile. “It always does.” After a short pause, he asked, “Work good? Bet you’re glad to be on vacation.”

“Yeah,” Jared said plainly then eyed Jensen. He couldn’t deny how Jensen wasn’t always meeting his eyes and his fingers kept tapping at the counter. It took a few moments to drum up the courage, but he asked, “You okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine. Why?”

The way Jensen had quickly answered betrayed his words and Jared breathed deep. He had to wonder if it really was that great of an idea to fly out. Further wondering included whether Jensen was intent on this thing between them, especially when he was back in L.A. and in his movie star life. Jared awkwardly asked, “We really gonna spend the whole week in the kitchen?”

Jensen rubbed at his ear. “No. Not the whole week.” Jared raised both eyebrows and stared, waiting for Jensen to continue. “What’d you wanna do?”

“Could see the whole house?”

“You really wanna see the whole house?”

Jared laughed and then shook his head. “It’s not often that I’m in a Hollywood home.”

Jensen took a deep breath and looked incredibly nervous as he said, “The kitchen is the least pretentious room in the house. That’s why I’m not moving yet.”

After a long look, Jared smirked. “Are you embarrassed by your house?”

Jensen rubbed at his ear again and tsked. “What? No. Of course not. My house is awesome.”

“Then why can’t I see it?”

“Because.”

Something clicked and Jared eased further into the room, leaning across the island and smiling at Jensen. “And here I thought you were nervous about my actually being here.”

Jensen gave him a look. “I am extremely nervous about you being here. You might knock out doorframes with your giant head.”

He chuckled, feeling settled in the moment with Jensen’s tiny dig, and especially so with his small smile. “Well aren’t you in a good mood today?”

*

It was far too obvious that Jensen was tense as he gave him a quick tour. He pointed out rooms that he deemed more important - like the bedroom, bathroom, and entertainment space - and simply gave a mumble and quick point at ones that he didn’t seem to want Jared to see..

Yet, Jared stalled at the office that had framed posters from every movie Jensen had been in, no matter what size role. Jared looked around, pausing longer on the sheets that had Jensen’s face on them, feeling an odd notion in the moment. He could perfectly recall how he felt upon first seeing the films and then it all mixed into what he knew of Jensen in his own life.

Jensen reached to tug on Jared’s shirt, but let his hand fall between them and walked on down the hallway instead. “Down here’s the TV room. Figure you’ll veg there for most of the week,” he joked.

Jared chose to ignore it for the time being, even though the comment struck him oddly and was begging for clarification.

*

At night, they watched an advanced copy of the newest summer blockbuster that Jensen had gotten through his connections. Jared reeled at catching the sneak peek and was enthralled through most of it. Especially given the special effects on the giant-sized projection screen and the comfort of the massive, overstuffed couch that faced it.

But he’d paid enough attention to Jensen’s long absence near the midpoint to comment when the guy finally returned. “You get lost in your own house?”

“No,” Jensen bristled. “Went to the kitchen,” he insisted while handing over a beer.

Jared smirked and looked at him. “This why you have staff? So you don’t miss the movie while feeding yourself?”

He snorted, “Fuck you, I don’t have staff.”

“Katie said they were off this week,” Jared pointed out.

Jensen pushed down into the cushions, resting his feet next to Jared’s on the ottoman. “I have a cleaning lady and a driver. And Katie, who I like to ignore on a daily basis.”

They tried to finish the movie, Jared especially, but he couldn’t ignore the notion of Jensen being a bit put off and too quiet. “You okay?”

“Yeah, why?” Jensen asked without taking his gaze from the screen.

Jared slid closer and quietly said, “Hey, c’mere.”

A bit distracted, Jensen slowly turned his way, eyes still with the action happening on screen. “Yeah?”

The second Jensen was fully facing him, Jared leaned in to kiss. Jensen obviously stalled and Jared started to pull back and fought a frown.

Jensen visibly swallowed, blinked, and then licked his lips. He murmured, “You don’t wanna see the rest of the movie do you?”

With a tiny frown, Jared admitted, “I came to see you.”

He cleared his throat then pointed out, “You haven’t seen the pool yet.”

*

Once outside, Jensen was full of sly smiles as he stripped down to his boxer briefs before jumping into the pool. Jared laughed, easily following suit and splashing his way through the water.

There wasn’t much for light that late at night, but Jared could see Jensen paddle closer, and it was impossible to miss the gleam of his smile. “Just gotta get you out of your clothes and you’re a whole new man,” Jared chuckled.

“I’m easy.”

As Jensen slid against him and kissed at Jared’s jaw, Jared murmured, “I’ve noticed.”

They kissed slowly but with the strong push of two wanting mouths as they backed into a corner of the pool. Jensen pulled back but he rested his hands at the edge to keep Jared trapped with him.

Jared’s hands wandered over Jensen’s back and he smiled right back at him. “You okay now?”

“You keep asking that like I have a problem,” Jensen said with a wry smile.

He openly said, “You have been kinda weird all day. And, I’m not complaining, but even this is a little weird.”

Jensen glanced back at the house as his mouth quirked and when he turned back to Jared, he appeared a bit nervous. “House is pretty big.”

“Yeah, and?”

An eyebrow rose as his voice fought to retain the joking tone. “Some people find it kind of intimidating. As if Katie isn’t enough of that.”

Jared sighed and his hands rested at the small of Jensen’s back. “Why are you nervous about my seeing the house?”

“I’m not,” Jensen answered quickly.

With a shake of his head, he said, “And here I thought you were just nervous about me being here.”

“Well, that, too.”

Another shake of his head and Jared tried to keep his smile up. “Why?”

He paused before replying, “’Cause. It’s you and me. And we’re here, in this place, and it’s all different.”

“What’s different? Different from where?”

Jensen’s head tipped down and his chest heaved with long breaths. “From Texas. It’s not the same up here. I got the big house and the assistant and people camped on my lawn. You don’t wanna deal with that.”

“I don’t,” Jared agreed quietly but tugged Jensen closer. “But I wanna deal with you. I wanted to see you and you said you couldn’t come down.”

“Truth be told, I just figured it’d be easier here. Plus, this way I don’t have to make an excuse to avoid Brewsters’.”

Jared tsked and shook his head, pretending to be pissed at the moment. But it didn’t last long because the sky above was a blanket of stars and he was alone with Jensen in the guy’s giant swimming pool.

*

In the morning, Jared rolled over and immediately found Jensen half-asleep. “Hungry,” he mumbled against Jensen’s shoulder.

“I’m not your chef.”

“Where’s yours?”

“Fuck you,” he said with little heat and then turned into Jared. His hand stroked over Jared’s shoulder as he leaned in to kiss him. “Morning.”

Jared easily kissed back, and kept on doing so, moving them into an easy makeout that led into a slow, drawn out round of sex. All with Jared moving over Jensen, covering him and touching every bit he could as he relished the moment of being together. Once they were spent, Jared shifted to only lay partly on Jensen, and he fell back asleep in no time.

When he awoke in the afternoon, it was to Jensen nudging him to sit and pulling a tray table over the bed. It was quickly filled with juices, bagels, and pastries to get them through some of their hunger.

After filling himself up, Jared slunk against the pillows, stretching above his head then crossing his hands behind his head. He couldn’t keep his eyes off the floor-to-ceiling windows that took up one wall and gave them a scenic spread of the coast just a few blocks away. “I don’t know why you’re ashamed of this place. I love it,” Jared said playfully.

“You should visit more often.”

His eyebrows rose with a smile. “I’d like to.”

Jensen’s lips turned into then out of a grin as he flopped to his back and stretched. “Okay, so regale me with all your awful students. You have one hour.”
