1,000 words of trainfic timestamp, just for youuuuuuu &hearts
Jensen rushes to the train station, praying for all he can that he’ll make the 5:26 train. He’s hurrying between the crowds of people up and down the sidewalks leading to the station and in and out of crowds inside the building. Then he comes to a complete stop in the lower concourse. He ees all the bodies, too many for rush hour when trains leave every ten minutes any number of tracks to various destinations.
His eyes scan the electronic schedule and catch the flashing red words. Delayed after Delayed after Delayed. He stares up at the board, scowling and angry, curling fingers into his palms.
A woman beside him chuckles. “Switches are all messed up. Got a few trains stuck out on the tracks already.”
Jensen shoots her a quick glance, but is still pissy with the whole thing. “How many trains?”
“Enough we’re not moving?” she smirks. She’s pretty, damned pretty, with perfect hair, nails, and shoes to go with her stylish pencil skirt and slim sweater.
He just keeps looking at the board, as if the words will disappear with his hard stare. “How long’re they delayed?”
“It’s been at least twenty minutes. Heard someone saying it’s another thirty for sure.”
Jensen huffs and looks around the area before pulling out his phone to text Jared, find out if he’s on one of the trains already on a track or if he’s among the hordes of passengers in the area.
“Which one you heading out on?” the woman asks, simple smile as she moves her laptop bag to the other shoulder.
“Northern Trail,” he replies, distracted with his phone and then turning into the crowd to find a different spot to stand.
She follows and continues easily, “Me, too. I’m at the Main South stop, which one are you?”
“One or two after that.”
“Funny. I’ve never seen you on the train before.” She smiles, and Jensen gives a tight smile in return. “Katie,” she prompts and waits for him to respond.
It takes a few seconds and another tight smile, but he answers, “Jensen,” as he slips between people. He tries to reach the outer edge of the concourse where it thins out but it takes a lot of time to thread through all the passengers. She’s behind him the whole time. In a way, Jensen’s annoyed, but she’s really not all too bad plus he’s busy focusing on getting through the area and maybe finding Jared. So he just lets her keep talking and following, answers easily as she asks questions about where his building is, how bad of a walk it is or isn’t to the station, how far he has to go from his train stop to his home.
Jensen’s not paying much attention, keeping his eyes on openings, when someone kicks at his ankle and nearly trips him. He stumbles for a moment then looks down with a scowl, and even when he spots Jared sitting on the floor and up against the wall, he keeps the angry face. “Dude, c’mon!”
Jared laughs and smirks a little. “Was wondering when you’d get over here.”
He looks around, finally realizing how weird it is that the woman is still with him. She smiles at them both, like they’re all friends and he makes a face before looking at Jared with a facial shrug. His fingers clench his phone and he looks down again. “Been texting you for like twenty minutes trying to find you.”
Jared pulls his knees up to give them a bit more room. “Reception sucks.”
“Your phone sucks.”
“Yeah, that, too,” he laughs. “Maybe my boyfriend will get me a new one.” Jensen smirks for a split second before flashing a glance at the woman. He catches Jared sliding closer to a kid sitting next to him, and he pats at the floor. “Grab a tile.”
Jensen swipes a hand down the front of his suit. “I’m not sitting on the floor.”
There’s a short silence when Jensen looks around and surveys the area and spots how the crowd is growing as more people enter the station and still no trains are leaving. Katie leans down with a bright smile. “Hi, I’m Katie.” With the way her voice softens, Jensen wonders if she’ll now attach herself to Jared.
Jared, of course, gives the friendliest of smiles and shakes her hand. “Jared. How’re you doing?”
“I’m good. Crazy down here, huh?”
“Yeah, no kiddin’. Haven’t seen delays like this in a long while.”
She smiles broadly and nods. Then she gestures one of those perfect hands between them. “So how do you guys know each other?”
With an easy nod, Jared says, “Dating.”
Jensen rolls his eyes and Katie’s widen as she looks at them both. After a few seconds of silence, she says, “Oh. Right. Okay.” She gives a short smile and looks around. “I think that’s my train over there … loading up,” she says pathetically and Jensen sighs as he looks away, trying to not make this any more awkward. “Nice to meet you guys.”
He tries a casual smile, but it’s stilted when he raises a hand in a lame wave and says, “Yeah, good luck. Getting home, ya know?”
“Nice to meet you, Katie,” Jared says with a bright smile.
Once she’s gone, Jensen shakes his head then crouches next to Jared, back pressed against the wall. “Just had to embarrass her didn’t you?”
“Thought I was doing you a favor,” he smirks.
Jensen’s shaking his head again before rolling his eyes and leaning close. “Whatever.” He gives a quick kiss and asks easily, “How’re you? How was work?”
“Not as much fun as my commute.”
Jared is again smirking and Jensen is again shaking his head, but smiling and finally sitting on the floor. He leans into Jared and takes a deep breath, preparing himself for the long wait but not minding it with Jared as company.
