I almost bought both seasons of the show a couple of months ago in Walmart, but then put them back. After Davy died however...I ordered them online. I am glad I did. I need to repurchase HEAD at some point, as I only had that on VHS. I am a monkees fan...and proud of it. But love the beatles too. There is enough room in the world for both. A shame Nesmith, who is my fave Monkee, distanced himself from being a part of the band though.
I saw Head back in the late '80s. It baffled me, as it was so different from the TV show... I suspect I'd like it more if I saw it again now.
Nesmith didn't seem to like being a Monkee much and wanted more control of the music (which they eventually got, to some extent). I watched a short interview with him recently, in which he almost seemed to be baffled that they were still asking him about the band and tried to distance himself from it politely ("Well, those were fun days, but they were a looong time ago for me...")
it is such a trippy film...hell, jack nicholson and frank zappa had their hand in it! and i think i saw that same interview, just the other day i was watching stuff on youtube...i can't believe he is 70 now!!!! but damn, he was the coolest to me.
