Just wanted to say that this idea has been mooted, quite often, for what must be three years now, and quite frankly I thought it was a good one even then.
In coding terms, we'd call such a change "transparent to the user". Personally I've been paying membership ever since I left! Get everything written down properly so you have something to refer yourself or others to for consistency - and there might be a couple of tricky things to think about, such as what it would now mean to have to kick someone out of the club for safety reasons - but it should all go very smoothly. Though, check if you've gotten some new insurance responsibilities now, as well.
As above, I recall this idea being mentioned before, I believe most recently the year before I was Chair.
I seemed to remember that I objected and I'm sure I had very good reasons for doing so... however, the solvent damage seems to have affected my long term memory and I'm damned if I can remember them now.
I think the main argument was "if it ain't broke...". The concept of a non-uni LARP club has no significant implications other than the new and many legal concerns as mentioned above.
Basically, all the non-students are more than happy to lend a hand with the running of the club and make donations without an external comittee, surely this adds unnessesary complication and work? I'm sure some official paperwork could be useful, but it's nothing a uni committee couldn't handle.
Sorry for being negative! I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I just feel it's unnessesary. Though I'm open to being convinced.
