...besides if we start quibbling over 2 handed sword lengths then people will complain about 1 handed sword lengths (eg short sword/long sword) then things get confusing and annoying

havent read the boards but i've always felt if your weilding it in one had, then its one handed, if your doing it in two hands its two handed. regardless of the sice of the weapon (okay tiny baby weapons dont count obviosuly)
I know for a fact that what i consider a 2handed sword will be a one handed sword for 50+% of the club.
TL has the very fortunate distinction that LT doesn't - it doesn't matter if your "1h sword" is in fact roadkillgerbil's mother@@@@er sword - the base damage remains low. Whilst in LT reach is everything (42" "1 handed swords", held by the pommel, for the win!), in TL it wouldn't help nearly as much as the near-doubling of the damage base - but you always have to pay for that.
Conversely, you could use a 1h with two hands plus the purchased 2h skill, to no real game inbalance.
I can't read the boards from work these days - great for my blood pressure!
It's best...reading it sent me off on one....short sword...longswords....short knives...LONG KNIVES. LONG KNIVES ALEX OMG THEY ARE SO IMBALANCED *STOPS BREATHING* OMG!!!!! *faints*
but seriously, it would be odd to apply to hand and halves bt not short/long daggers/swords. What about arm length for fist damage?
Still I agree the point has merit, but I think it is a headache waiting to happen.
I have spec with 1 handed and exp with 2 handed. Considering costs from there on are fairly steep I think that using the hand and a half style in terms of points alone is hefty enough. I call two different damages as I change hands from one to two. It's a clumsy one handed weapon too, so has its own disadvantages there.
... the biggest penalty is when the monster hears and bounces your one-handed damage, and then doesn't notice when it increases by 3.
The main problem I have with 1h/2h swords is the fact most of our swords are 42" long with a grip big enough for two hands, but usable in one.
That these swords do as much damage as a sword half again their length seems ...wrong. They are quicker, need less of a swing and, by dropping to one hand, got as much reach as a great sword.
I would like to see damage reduced across the board, many to simplify the maths. Partly to level the playing field a bit more.
dagger base 2 1 handed sword 3 1h/2h sword 4 staff 4 great sword 5
with 2 hands adding 2 per strength level and 1 hand adding 1 per strength
or something like that.
(and if you think that guts the system, you should see the plan for armour)

I'd say that's a big enough penalty too.
