Immersion

Last week I played Calis for the first time since the ll36hr and I found, again, that he feels like a walking set of stats. Nab, Rey, Cassius, Felix and Raethen all have their personalities that I can get into but I just don't connect with the character. Everything was forced and difficult to play, I had to just ignore being in command because the ( Read more... )

I fall firmly into the camp of "if the character's not fun and not likely to be fun then why bother?" Sometimes characters just don't work for whatever reason. That said, I find that Kadija and Harlequin increasingly have less use statswise in a party, but they make up for it in roleplay - does he have the possibility to go that way?

It probably says a lot that I had to stop and think for some time before I could recall who Calis actually is...

Maybe. He feels more like a logic diagram than a character. With him it's like yes/no questions and follow the tree down. Potentially it's that he lacks anything defining in his personality whereas all the others have something. But you are right if it's not fun then why do it? It's a game and meant to be fun why force an issue?

Have you tried doing any writing from his perspective to see if you can get into his head a bit better?

Liam is starting to grow on me so I get that. I guess it's about finding
the right fit. I do have some fun with the stats but I get the point about the roleplay, it's just more fun

imho... characters are a bit like outfits (and you, lesbo, should understand this fashion metaphor) there are some outfits, which look AWESOME in the shop, but when tried on, just aren't right, or there are some outfits, which looked great a year ago, and will look great in a years time, but atm, just don't suit... unless there is a really valid reason for wearing them (uniform... it will get you laid... I can't think of any better reasons) then you just don't.
Denim jacket is a PRIME example... I bought it when I was 12... it didn't fit until I was 14... and then when I was about 16 I went off it... it is now a STAPLE of my wardrobe...
Things change with time, people change with time, characters change with time. Don't BEAT YOURSELF UP SO MUCH.
Chillax, have a beer and mtfu. that will fix things :D
