Spring has sprung and it's all wrong

It's over 70°F outside today. Just a reminder of today's date: Today is January 6. Winter started just two weeks ago, on December 21, yet today feels like the end of March. Alison went running in shorts and a tee shirt this afternoon. All our windows are wide open. It's fucking JANUARY!!!! This shit is insane. I want a new planet.

It's about the same here. Scientists have predicted the hottest year on record, I think I heard.

The shit's hitting the fan.

Yep. Our coastline is disappearing rapidly, and the less coast there is, the less protection...

I can't really complain, except it would have been nice if I was off work to enjoy the freakishly warm weather.

Wait until it drops to 10 degrees, then the real bitchin' will begin.

I don't think it will drop that low. It hasn'teven gotten below freezing yet this year. While I agree with youthat it's enjoyable weather, part of me feels conflicted when I relish the warmth, because I'm indirectly enjoying global warming, and that feels very wrong.

this could be just a fluke northeast winter that isn't necessarily related to global warming. you can't take one warmer-than-normal winter and write it off as global warming damnit. this summer was relatively mild as well, definitely down in temps, not up...
maybe i need to be in denial to appreciate not being cold and miserable 4 months out of the year.

That's almost word for word what I wrote in a letter to someone last week, except I was walking around in a Jumper in January. For a Western Australian summer that is absolutely bizarre. In Victoria last month it snowed. It doesn't snow in Victoria in the winter - but last month, the first month of summer, it snowed.
