In Rainbows

I'm a fan. What's everyone else think?

I like the return to a more late-90's-Radiohead sound, as Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief were nowhere near as good, in my opinion, as the preceding three albums. That said, all the songs sound pretty much the same unless you're listening closesly to them. My favorites so far are "House of Cards" and "Nude ( Read more... )

you consider amnesiac so much more meandering than kid a? the two are companion pieces, pieced together from the same sessions from both records. 'reckoner' also dates back to 2001 (and 'nude' has been played live since 1997). hail to the thief's main weakness was it's length, not the quality of the songs. there are some killer tunes on that record, just some clunkers towards the end.

speaking of throwbacks... i've always thought that HTTT was a combination of amnesiac and the guitar-epics of the bends- making hail a throwback as well, even moreso than the new record ( ... )

ps- get the new pj harvey album, stat- even if you have to download it or steal it from someone. it's a far better piano record than anything our fallen red-haired friend has offered us in the new millenium.

I probably won't have time to give it the attention it deserves until this weekend but I'm anxious to hear other's opinions. Yours is the first I've seen so far.

This was in CNN yesterday: http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/10/radiohead.reader.feedback/index.html

so i previously have thought of radiohead as such:
good music, especially for background, with a few choice songs worth downloading.

but,
this album pleases my ears...alot.
the opening song is perfect to start it off, too.

i'll be listening to this for a very, very long time.

I am not sure about the album, since I did not have the time to listen any new music since I left Berlin. Nonetheless I have the feeling of witnessing the beginnings of an interesting process which maybe will not kill the record industry itself but allow a kind of creativity which wouldn't be possible from inside the current system - even for new bands (I could imagine something like a band of the weight of Radiohead hosting the album of a small unknown band which probably would have even more of a PR effect than any label could offer). Let's see if the music market gets a bit more democratic again, especially with Youtube's ability to host music videos which would not find a space on any music channel.

Then again Bowie's Telling Lies Download single was innovative as well and still it took almost a decade until the world was capable of realizing the potential.
