Although the central topic of the article is also interesting to me, I couldn't help but contemplate the sort of frustrations players can feel when their GM is "railroading" them.

Sounds like a good reason for the GM to try to stay out of the "rewards" business altogether.

One thing some indie games do well (others do not) is just kinda leave the Big Girls Stickers there for you to pick up for yourself.
