Fandom has taught me many things...

My sister and I babysat for our next door neighbours at the weekend, and it was fun, because the children are truly adorable, even if Kayleigh has developed an annoying habit of crying every two seconds in order to attract your attention. Jess and I decided that a 'cruel to be kind' approach would probably be most beneficial in the long run, and ( Read more... )

i think a lot of people just like to live in ignorance of things like this. i guess it's thought to be generally accepted that girl-on-girl pornography is more acceptable than guy-on-guy. this is probably because of the idea that women aren't necessarily lesbians if they enjoy reading/watching or even partaking in these activities, but surely any man who would do so is gay, gay, GAY. since most straight men are terribly homophobic, they don't even want to think that male homoerotica could be sexy for anyone besides gay men. it's a pretty strong double-standard, probably helped a great deal by the adult industry, because most women porn actors are perfectly willing to do a mixture of male or female, because they know it will make them popular and successful, but i would think that most men wouldn't happily go into gay porn unless they truly were at least bi-curious. somehow man-on-man is seen as more of a point of no return than woman-on-woman, i guess. but that's also just my conjecture ( ... )

I agree with you completely, and yes, it really is a very strong double standard, especially considering that many homophobes fail to differentiate between gay and lesbian relationships anyway, so such a divide is actually kind of pointless. I guess it stems from the idea that women, seeing as they are stereotypically viewed as being more emotional than men, are better able to connect with people of both sexes and so often develop sexual feelings for their close or best friends etc. Men supposedly don't do that. This theory may seem sound on the surface, but it becomes ridiculous when you apply it to reality, or to other cultures in particular. After all, the ancient Romans hardly regarded intimacy between two men as being something rare and unnatural!

Porn is a very dignified subject, you know. I am feeling refined even as we speak! In fact, I think I will go and read some smut now... ;)
