"All right, kid, you ready to go?" says Rollie, bag already packed with towels and snacks and ready to head out to the water. You don't need any help with that

"I'm six," points out Karen, but she's still smiling a lot. She gets to go swimming with Rollie. Swimming is Karen's favourite thing at the moment.

"I'm getting really good!" she tells him, and not for the first time today, slipping her hand into his.

"Yeah, but that doesn't stop you from asking for help with things when you don't feel like doing them yourself," says Rollie, squeezing her hand and wondering how far they're going to get before she asks to be carried the rest of the way. "How good are you getting? Do you go out very far in the water?"

"Yeah, but sometimes there are just things you do better than me," says Karen, swinging their hands a little bit as they walk.

"I still have to be able to put my feet on the floor."

"Well, you'll have to show me everything when we get there," says Rollie. "I'm sure when you get bigger you'll be able to do everything I can. Well, almost everything."
